Landcare is a volunteer movement where individuals and groups improve their local patch through hands-on action! We acknowledge Elders – past and present.

Landcare Tasmania acknowledges and pays respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal people as the traditional and original owners, and continuing custodians of this land on which we live today. A care group (Landcare, Coastcare, Wildcare, Bushcare, Friends of etc) usually starts when passionate locals share concerns about an environmental problem, then get together and do something about it. Landowners and communities drive on-ground change in places they value, improving soil health, water quality and wildlife habitat. Volunteers may be from the coast or the country, students or retirees, farmers or families. Landcare is a dynamic and credible movement with extensive networks across Tasmania, Australia – and beyond. Landcare Tasmania Inc and Landcare Action Grants are supported by the Tasmanian Government.

🌿 ONE WEEK TO GO! The Gathering 2026 is nearly here!

In just seven days, we’ll be bringing Tasmania’s community Landcare network together in Deloraine for three days of connection, learning, inspiration and celebration.

The full program is now live! Explore practical workshops, panel discussions, inspiring local projects, Friday social activities, Saturday’s evening Celebration and Sunday field trips.

The Gathering is for the people who make community Landcare happen across Tasmania - including Landcare, Coastcare and Bushcare volunteers, coordinators, landholders, farmers, land managers, organisations, partners and people interested in getting involved.

🌿 Great news for riverside habitat in North West Tasmania!

Landcare Tasmania is pleased to be partnering with Waratah-Wynyard Council and Wynyard Landcare on a project to restore important riparian areas, improve local waterways and support native wildlife.

With $320,000 in Australian Government funding, the project will tackle invasive w**ds, plant native trees and shrubs, monitor wildlife and create opportunities for community members to get involved.

It’s a great example of what can be achieved through collaboration to care for our local environments and protect habitat for species including the Tasmanian devil, azure kingfisher and eastern barred bandicoot.

We look forward to seeing this important work take shape!

🌿 Got a great idea for your local community? Pitch it!

Landcare Tasmania and Recycle Rewards are teaming up (through The Gathering) to help turn local ideas into action, with three $2,000 opportunities for Landcare Tasmania member groups!

From community campaigns and school partnerships to new fundraising initiatives, we want to hear your ideas for reducing litter, keeping eligible containers out of the environment and creating local environmental and community benefits.

🌿 Three groups. $2,000 each. Your idea could make a difference!

Applications are open to current Landcare Tasmania member groups across Tasmania - and you don’t need to attend The Gathering to apply.

🌿 Monday Member Spotlight – East Tamar Landcare

This week we're celebrating the fantastic work of East Tamar Landcare!

East Tamar Landcare are a group of local landholders and citizens who are using their expertise to improve the health of the land and waterways in the East Tamar!

This dedicated group of individuals have worked tirelessly over the last 3 years to give something back to the community, bringing a unique patch of riparian vegetation back to life with the Reg Yates Memorial Interpretation Centre and Boardwalk.

The boardwalk is an amazing story of vision, commitment and collaboration, with East Tamar Landcare coordinating support across several organisations, including Tamar NRM, Landcare Tasmania, NRM North, George Town Council, Green Army, Correctional Services and Bays of Fire Wines.

This project is a testament to what can be achieved through dedicated effort as well as community passion and care.

East Tamar Landcare has been a pillar of the local community for 35 years and throughout their time they have completed extensive projects eradicating w**ds such as gorse, blackberry and ragwort as well as removing invasive Willows from Pipers River.

But that’s not all! This small but mighty group have expanded to take on coastal rehabilitation, and coastal w**d removal.
