SCREENWEST TAKES MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL GAMES WEEK (MIGW) ✈️

We’re thrilled to have supported a record 15 delegates to attend this year's MIGW 🎮

Over the past few days, we've had five WA games showcasing at PAX including Screenwest-supported Signs of Danger by Slow Rush, and PAX Aus 2026 Indie Showcase winner, Finch & Archie, by Octarine Arts. 🌟

We’re proud to have had multiple WA developers at Play Now pitching to publishers, and multiple practitioners speaking at GCAP and other MIGW events throughout the week.

Screenwest-supported projects are also being showcased at Frosty Fest Showcase, Parallels and Games for Change – specifically Signs of Danger, Kin Keeper by Sunny Numbat Studios, and Don’t Stop, Girlypop! by Funny Fintan Softworks.

We’d also like to congratulate our Australian Game Developer Awards (AGDAs) nominees, The Last Werewolf by Unnatural Freaks nominated for Excellence in Impact, and Don’t Stop, Girlypop! nominated for Excellence in Soundtrack. 🎶

Congratulations to writer and scripted developer Jamey Claffey, on being selected as the Western Australian finalist for Netflix ANZ’s The Next Brilliant Career - a national initiative supporting the next generation of women and non-binary screen storytellers.

One of eight emerging Australian writers selected nationally, Jamey travelled to Netflix HQ in Sydney earlier this week to pitch an original scripted concept, building on a career spanning writing, script development and story editing across Australia and the UK.

Jamey has worked in script and story editing roles within BBC TV Drama Commissioning and BBC Studios, and assistant produced radio plays for BBC Radio 4. Her credits include River City for BBC Scotland and The Replacement for Left Bank Pictures.

ATTACHMENT SPOTLIGHT - Jebediah: Are We OK? 🎶🎸

"Back in April, I stepped onto Jebediah: Are We OK? as a Screenwest BTL attachment right as the project was heading into the final stages of post-production. By that point, the film had already been eleven years in the making - bringing together over 11,000 clips, thirty years of band archive, rare photos, music, and graphics into one cohesive 90-minute story.

I jumped in across post-production and stayed on through the theatrical release campaign, working across press and publicity. Working alongside Brooke, Arlo, and the post team taught me so much about the practical reality of finishing and releasing a financed feature doc. Such an invaluable project to be a part of while continuing to build my own producing and post-production foundation.

Congratulations to the team at Octarine Arts on their game Finch & Archie being selected as one of the PAX Aus 2026 Indie Showcase winners! 👏

The Indie Showcase highlights 12 Australian-made games across video games and tabletop, all playable at this year’s PAX Aus event.

🎮 Finch & Archie is an episodic co-op noir murder mystery. Play as one half of a crime-fighting duo: the detective Jack Finch and his police dog, Archie. Use your deduction skills and sense of smell to find evidence, interrogate suspects and catch the culprit in a gritty story set in the Great Depression.

In the latest edition of their newsletter, Ausfilm spotlighted proud Noongar performer, writer, producer and director, Karla Hart.

Now one of Australia’s most influential First Nations filmmakers, Karla has forged a multi-disciplinary career in the arts spanning theatre, screen, radio and events.

Hart’s catalogue includes more than 140 episodes of broadcast television, including Our Medicine, Yokayi Footy, Family Rules and the cooking-travel series On Country Kitchen with Derek Nannup and Mark Olive.

Her upcoming series Saltwater Cowboys is due to air in 2027 and her first feature film, Moodja is now in development.
