On 3rd June 2026, WA State Director Sarah Strathearn and Division Council Chair Di Buckles welcomed Australian Red Cross President Kate Jenkins to the WA ARC Headquarters.
The visit provided an opportunity for Kate to connect with our dedicated staff, volunteers, members and Division Council representatives; the people who make our work possible every day. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work being delivered across Western Australia
The program began with a welcome, followed by an Acknowledgement of Country in Noongar language and then a presentation introducing the WA Community Mobilisation Team and the support they provide to volunteers and members across Western Australia. Program managers then shared brief overviews of their respective programs, providing insights into the impact of their work and the communities they support.
Following the presentations, Sarah hosted a panel discussion with an Aged Care volunteer, a member from the City Beach Unit, and a representative from the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). A perfect way to showcase ways volunteers and members contribute to our mission across different generations and communities.
Kate then toured the WA office, taking the time to meet staff and have a chat about their journey with Australian Red Cross, what inspired them to do this work, and their experiences supporting vulnerable individuals and communities across Western Australia.
A highlight of the visit was Kate's participation in Soup Patrol, where she joined volunteers in distributing hot soup and food to people experiencing homelessness. It was a valuable opportunity for her to see firsthand the compassion, commitment and community spirit that volunteers bring to this important service.
We thank Kate for taking the time to visit Western Australia and for her ongoing support and engagement with our people and communities. We also extend our thanks to the amazing staff, volunteers, members and Division Council representatives who helped make the visit memorable.
