Daniel Callinan A Difficult Out As Nightcliff Tigers Defeat Palmerston and Rural Reds
Daniel Callinan collected three hits in three at bats, as Nightcliff Tigers defeated Palmerston and Rural Reds 11-7 on Sunday. Callinan doubled in the second inning, singled in the third inning, and doubled in the fifth inning.
Nightcliff Tigers came back to win despite trailing 4-0 in the first.
Palmerston and Rural Reds opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to three singles. Palmerston and Rural Reds first got on the board when Tim Palmer singled, scoring one run.
Nightcliff Tigers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Ben Lawerence that drove in two.
Palmerston and Rural Reds tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a fielder's choice by Alan Kassman, a single by Jason Love, and a single by Wayne Martin.
In the bottom of the third, Nightcliff Tigers broke up the tie when Mitchell Green tripled, scoring one run. Then a single by Callinan followed to extend the lead to 9-7.
Mark MacDonald earned the win for Nightcliff Tigers. The pitcher gave up 12 hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Daneik Stanton took the loss for Palmerston and Rural Reds. The starter went one and one-third innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking four.
Nightcliff Tigers collected 10 hits in the game. Anthony Zamolo and Nick Auciello each collected multiple hits for Nightcliff Tigers. Callinan and Lawerence each stole multiple bases for Nightcliff Tigers. Nightcliff Tigers ran wild on the base paths, amassing six stolen bases for the game. Nightcliff Tigers turned one double play in the game. Nightcliff Tigers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Zamolo made the most plays with four.
