Canberra Multicultural Service

Canberra Multicultural Service Serving Canberra with local & national international news, music & programs in thirty languages.

Canberra Multicultural Service (CMS) has been serving the Canberra community with local, national and international news, music and programs in over thirty languages other than English since 1977. We are the only dedicated multicultural radio station in the ACT and surrounds. Canberra is a vibrant and successful multicultural and multilingual city. The 2011 Census identified that one in four ACT r

esidents were born overseas and over 79,000 Canberrans speak a language other than English when at home. CMS is a non profit organisation and all of our Broadcasters and Board Members are volunteers. We strongly believe in supporting and empowering Canberra’s multicultural and multilingual community, in particular those at risk of social isolation. Through language CMS particularly supports new and emerging communities become connected to what is happening in the ACT and surrounds. All language groups to go to air no less than one hour per week and CMS’ priorities include youth, women, new and emerging, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. CMS wants to continue to grow and expand the languages we offer to the Canberra community and ensure that there is a strong and vibrant multicultural radio station in the nation’s capital into the future.

2026 Volunteering Expo ❤️🙏❤️🙏

Thank you Volunteering ACT CEO Jean Giese and team for your important work in the community sector. The 2026 Volunteering Expo at University of Canberra was amazing. It was a delight to attend and meet many of our volunteers who give and enhance our community and provide real savings to government via the services and time they provide.

CMS went live at the Expo! OB was fantastic! We had our HelloCanberra and HerCapital Stories

🌸 When women give boldly, communities rise stronger.

This International Women’s Day, something extraordinary happened in Canberra.

We launched HerCapital Stories — a book that is more than pages and print.

It is voice. It is visibility. It is legacy.

✨ 20 multicultural women. 15+ countries. One shared truth:
Strength is built through courage, resilience, and the willingness to give — even when the path is uncertain.

From Taiwan to Cameroon.
From Afghanistan to Fiji.
From Sri Lanka, China and the Philippines… to Nigeria, India, Samoa, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Nepal, Tonga and Australia —

These women carry stories of migration, reinvention, advocacy, and impact across generations.

They are leaders.
They are bridge-builders.
They are the welcome sign for others.

And now — their stories are finally seen, heard, and celebrated.

💬 As we explored this year’s theme, , one truth stood clear:
When multicultural women give leadership, care, and voice — our entire city gains strength.

At Water’s Edge, surrounded by powerful conversations, heartfelt connections, and a room full of purpose —
we didn’t just launch a book.

We honoured courage.
We celebrated contribution.
We expanded what’s possible for the next generation.

📍 Hosted by CMS Radio FM 91.1 — Canberra’s only full-time multicultural radio station, broadcasting in 30+ languages, amplifying over 35,000 voices.

❤️ To every woman who shared her story: thank you for your courage.
❤️ To every person who joined us: thank you for standing with us.

This is just the beginning.

✨ This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating women in our community who are building their own paths and creating spaces for others to thrive.

Today on Hello Canberra, we’re joined by Soëlily, founder of Serenity Travels. Alongside her career as a legal professional in public service, Soëlily has always been passionate about advocacy, community, and bringing people together.

What started as organising trips for friends and family grew into something more meaningful - recognising the importance of creating experiences that consider the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse women.

Her journey shows how women-led businesses often begin with a simple idea and a desire to create something inclusive, supportive, and empowering for others.

🎧 Tune in to Hello Canberra today from 5-6pm on CMS 91.1FM to hear Soëlily share her story.
