Prime Minister James Marape used the 41st Australia Papua New Guinea Business Forum & Trade Expo to reassure investors of the government's commitment to economic reform and growth, while urging businesses to look beyond mining and petroleum into sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, fisheries and logistics. International Trade and Investment Ministry of Papua New Guinea Minister Richard Maru echoed the call, highlighting downstream processing and value-added industries as key drivers of jobs and economic expansion.

Infrastructure and connectivity also featured prominently, with PNG Ports Corporation Managing Director Neil Papenfus, Kumul Consolidated Holdings PNG Chief Investment and Infrastructure Officer David Kitione, Australian Minister for Pacific Island Affairs Pat Conroy, and Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso outlining major opportunities in ports, digital connectivity and strategic infrastructure investment across Papua New Guinea.

Yesterday in Brisbane, our committee members from across Australia and Papua New Guinea came together in person and online for our Inaugural Committee Strategy Meeting.

Our executives and committee members are professionals, founders and business leaders.

This has been a steady journey. We began under the wing of BCPNG, who incubated us in our early days, and we have taken our time since to do the groundwork properly to build something that lasts.

We are now registered as an organisation in our own right, and our bank accounts will be open soon. Yesterday we put our foundations in place. We adopted our mission and vision, agreed to our committee structure and membership framework, and set a clear twelve-month roadmap for where we are heading.

What we are building is simple at its heart. People to People Connections for Trade and Investment. We are an organisation built and driven by research and data, so our work is grounded in evidence.

Through people-to-people connections, we turn the networks and know-how of our diaspora into real opportunities for Papua New Guinean businesses, professionals and entrepreneurs across both our countries.

The vision has been tested and proven. Now we put it to work, and we have many announcements on the way.

In the coming weeks we will be introducing our executive and committee team, our state representatives, and bringing you news on membership, training and development, and events. There is a lot to share, so keep an eye out.

Follow and share our page to keep up to date.

Our PNG DIASPORA BUSINESS COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA Committee Members attended the PNG Labour Mobility Unit (PNGLMU) PNG Diaspora Partnership Forum on 6th & 7th June 2026 in Brisbane.

Developing PNG workers fit for work was one of the themes and the forum included key stakeholders including:

* Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)

* Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR)

* Approved Employers and other providers and business leaders.

Identifying practical actions and building stronger partnerships with the PNG diaspora to enhance community connections was a key outcome.

We thank our committee members for their dedication and comittment to the cause.

Australiaโ€™s Minister for Pacific Island Affairs Pat Conroy announced a major new push to support Papua New Guineaโ€™s telecommunications and digital infrastructure sector during the 41st Australia Papua New Guinea Business Forum and Trade Expo. Conroy said the proposed Telecommunications Blueprint and โ€œPukpuk Digital Connectivity Initiative,โ€ named by Acting PNG ICT Minister Peter Tsiamalili Jr., could help drive economic growth, improve connectivity, lower telecommunications costs, and support digital transformation across PNG. He said effective digitisation could add K85 billion to PNGโ€™s economy and create more than 130,000 jobs by 2035. Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso also attended the forum discussions.
