This Saturday is Valentine's Day - many of those in the Defence community know that love doesn’t pause for distance, duty or deployment. Let's think of all the military families whose love endures every challenge 💕

This photo is of the Womens' Royal Australian Army Corps (WRAAC) birthday parade at Victoria Barracks, Sydney (1969).

On 12 February, 1951, the Women’s Royal Australian Army Corps (WRAAC) was established to cover a manpower shortage due to the Korean War and national service.

During the late 1970s, female soldiers began to be integrated into the Australian Army, and in early 1985, the WRAAC was disbanded.

There are reunion events taking place to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Women’s Royal Australian Army Corps over the next few days. We wish all members and families a wonderful reunion. We thank you for your service, your legacy, and the path you forged for future generations of women in uniform.

They didn’t choose to serve – but when Australia called, they answered.

Seventy-five years ago, the first cohort of young Australians were registered under the 1951 National Service Scheme.

On Saturday, 14 February, we honour their service and that of all who were called up for national service in the 1951-1959 and 1965-1972 schemes.

In communities across the country, the RSL works to ensure the stories of service are not lost to time. Through memorials, displays, and local commemorations, these efforts ensure veterans are remembered where they lived and were known.

The Australian Government’s Saluting Their Service (STS) Commemorative Grants Program supports this important work by providing funding for commemorative initiatives both large and small.

RSL Australia thanks all Sub-Branches undertaking important projects in their communities, continuing this vital work, preserving memory, honouring service, and keeping the ANZAC spirit alive for future generations.
