One thing I’ve been really open about sharing since coming back to the ACT Legislative Assembly is just how much spending time away from politics changed how I see the world.

It reminded me that change rarely starts in hearing rooms or committee meetings, it starts on our streets, with simple acts of kindness, when our neighbours look out for each other.

Over the last few years, I’ve watched working people with full-time jobs and busy lives step up to build safety nets where our systems fail, improving lives simply because no one else will.

That’s a spirit and a lesson I want to honour by bringing with me into the parliament, proving that direct action and mutual aid CAN and SHOULD be the core work of a parliamentarian.

That’s why I’ve teamed up with Helping ACT to launch free, monthly mutual-aid community dinners right here in Watson and Ainslie.

No bureaucracy, no forms, no questions asked. As a team, we just provide warm food and a welcoming space for anyone who needs it.

This week, we hosted our very first dinner, and over forty neighbours came through to share a hot meal and connect. This is what community power looks like, and we're just getting started.

VolunteeringACT is inviting nominations for the 2026 Volunteer Manager of the Year Awards. These awards are an annual celebration for volunteer managers and volunteer management teams in the ACT and surrounding areas.

Awards are presented to an individual volunteer manager or volunteer management teams whose leadership and inclusive practices have shaped and strengthened volunteer programs in an organisation and/or in the Canberra Region. This can include areas such as community work, sport, education, science, culture, arts, or the environment.

Nominations are being accepted for following four award categories:
Excellence in Inclusion
Excellence in Best Practice
Excellence in Community Impact
Volunteer Management team of the Year
