SMA - Society of Mountain Artists The Society of Mountains Art Society in the Blue Mountains, Australia.

We invite members to contribute their art and we showcase art demonstrations, affordably priced workshops and art exhibitions. We are an active group of art lovers situated in the majestic Blue Mountains west of Sydney in Australia. The World Heritage landscape of the Blue Mountains provides visual and creative stimulation and is home to some of Australia's finest artists. The main objectives of t

he Society are to foster and promote visual arts through a varied range of activities including demonstrations from accomplished artists, workshops, plein air painting days, exhibitions of members works, visits to major art exhibitions and painting holidays.

Want to learn about Pastels? Join our Paint Together next Saturday, 27th June at the Wentworth Falls School of Arts. Dennis will bring some pastels and paper or you can use your own. Cost is $10 or $5 if you’re working independently on another project. All welcome from 10am to 1pm. Morning tea included. Just come along. No booking required.

Thanks to Phil Went for his detailed explanation of the use of copper as a painting surface and the positives and negatives for the use of other boards such as canvas, Masonite and wood panels. He answered many questions from the members and described the rationale for the tonal relationships considered during his work. The black box used to create drama in his still life work was very effective and Phil brought a stunning group of small paintings showing its use. Phil’s demo was part of our June general meeting held on Thursday, 18th June.
