The Great Rotary Whitewater Duck Race is back!

On Sunday 18 October, thousands of yellow rubber ducks will take on the rapids at Penrith Whitewater Stadium, and this year, your duck can help support Cancer Wellness Support.

Sponsor a duck for just $5, and when you buy your ticket directly from CWS, $4 comes back to Cancer Wellness Support.

You’ll be in the running for some fantastic prizes, while helping us continue to provide affordable, person-centred support for people living with cancer and their carers in our community.

“Knowing there was somewhere to turn made all the difference.”

In the final part of Cassandra’s story, she reflects on what it meant to know Cancer Wellness Support was there — not only during treatment, but through the emotional ups and downs that come with a cancer diagnosis.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. A welcoming smile. Someone who listens. A therapy that brings some relief. Being somewhere you don’t have to explain what you’re going through.

For Cassandra, having that place mattered.

Cancer doesn’t only affect the person diagnosed. Its impact is felt by families, carers and the people who walk alongside them.

When Cassandra’s mum was diagnosed with cancer, Cancer Wellness Support became part of her family’s journey.

Years later, Cassandra received a cancer diagnosis of her own.

This time, she knew where she could turn.

When Cassandra’s mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2010, her family began looking for support and found Cancer Wellness Support.

It was the beginning of a connection that would continue through different chapters of Cassandra’s life.

In Part 1 of her story, Cassandra shares what those early days were like for her family and what it meant to know there was somewhere they could turn for support.

Cancer Wellness Support was proud to receive funding through the 2025 NSW Community Building Partnership Program, supported by Trish Doyle MP Member for Blue Mountains. 💛

The funding enabled us to repaint the interior of our Leura Wellness Centre, creating a brighter, calmer and more inviting space for the many people who walk through our doors each year.

A long-time supporter of Cancer Wellness Support, Trish recently visited the Centre to see the completed project and spend time with our team.

For people living with cancer and their carers, the environment in which they receive care matters. This refresh has helped us create a space that feels comfortable, calm and cared for — for our clients, carers, volunteers, therapists and staff.

We’re incredibly grateful to the NSW Government and Trish Doyle MP for investing in our local community and helping us continue to provide affordable and accessible cancer care in the Blue Mountains. 🌼

Some partnerships span years. Others span decades.

For Maurice G Cooper OAM and Kerry McKenzie of Bygone Beautys , supporting Cancer Wellness Support has been a commitment from the very beginning.

They stood alongside our founder, Robyn Yates OAM, in the early days of our organisation and have continued to champion our mission ever since.

Earlier this year, more than 80 guests gathered for the annual Bygone Beautys Cancer Wellness Support Fundraising Dinner - a special evening filled with connection, generosity and a shared belief that no one should face cancer alone.

Guests heard stories of impact, hope and community, including Kathryn's experience of finding Cancer Wellness Support after her husband's cancer diagnosis.

What began with a visit to one of our Op Shops became a pathway to the care, connection and support they needed during an incredibly difficult time.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of everyone who attended, an incredible $18,220 was raised, with all funds staying local to support people living with cancer and their carers in the Blue Mountains region.

To Maurice, Kerry, and the wonderful Bygone Beautys community — thank you. Your unwavering support continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of so many.

Last week we brought our Op Shop teams together for our Retail Planning Day — a chance to connect, share ideas, celebrate what we’ve achieved and look ahead to what’s next. 💛

Our Op Shops are about so much more than great finds. Every sale helps Cancer Wellness Support provide affordable and accessible support for people living with cancer and their carers.

It was a wonderful day of sharing, learning and fresh ideas, with plenty of inspiration from the people who make our shops what they are — our staff, volunteers, customers and community.

We’re excited about what’s ahead. 💛

Some spaces are built with walls, paint and furniture.

Others are built with love, hope and care.

Over the past few weeks, our team has been busy turning an empty space into something much more meaningful: a new home for Cancer Wellness Support in Penrith.

From assembling furniture and unpacking boxes, to putting the finishing touches on therapy rooms, hanging signage out the front and thoughtfully preparing each space, every detail has been shaped with one purpose in mind: creating a welcoming environment where people living with cancer and their carers feel supported from the moment they walk through the door.

We have completed our final therapy room and while there are still a few finishing touches, we're incredibly proud of how far we've come.

Behind every room is a team that has poured their time, energy and heart into making this space feel calm, comfortable and ready to support our community.

To our incredible team: thank you. What you've created is more than a Wellness Centre. It's a place of care, connection and hope.
