“Every person who works at CWS truly cares.”

For Cassandra, Cancer Wellness Support became an important source of care and support through her own cancer diagnosis and treatment — and for her husband as he supported her along the way.

Hearing these words really puts into perspective why we do what we do.

A breast cancer diagnosis brings more than a treatment plan.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we're sharing Kerrie's story in a three-part series about her experience following breast cancer surgery and the support she found along the way.

Part 1 | Finding support after surgery

When a McGrath Breast Care Nurse encouraged Kerrie to contact Cancer Wellness Support, she found a team who took the time to listen, answer her questions and help her understand what support was available as she recovered.

For Kerrie, having somewhere to turn, and people she could talk to, made a difficult time a little easier to navigate.

Reflexology – supporting wellbeing through cancer. 💚

Living with cancer can bring physical and emotional challenges, including stress, anxiety, discomfort and disrupted sleep.

Reflexology is a gentle complementary therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet or hands, with the aim of supporting the body's natural healing processes and promoting relaxation.

For people living with cancer, reflexology may help ease tension, reduce feelings of anxiety, improve sleep and support overall wellbeing.

At Cancer Wellness Support, reflexology is one of the complementary therapies we offer to help ease the physical and emotional challenges of living with cancer, supporting relaxation, wellbeing and quality of life.

42km from Katoomba to Springwood. More than $15,000 raised for Cancer Wellness Support. 💚

On Saturday 26 September, the team at Purcell Property took on their second annual Run The Open Home, raising more than $15,000 for Cancer Wellness Support.

It was a huge effort — from the runners who covered the 42km course, to everyone who sponsored, donated, supported them along the way and helped bring the day together.

The funds raised will help us keep our services affordable and accessible for local people living with cancer, including subsidising complementary therapies for our clients and carers.

To the team at Purcell Property, and everyone who got behind Run The Open Home — thank you. What you achieved on Saturday will directly support the work we do every day across our community. 💚

💛 What if strength doesn't always mean pushing through?

Sometimes strength is slowing down. Taking a breath. Giving yourself permission to simply be.

For Paul O'Loughlin, Gentle Yoga Teacher at Cancer Wellness Support, that's at the heart of what yoga can offer.

Through gentle movement, mindfulness and meditation, Paul creates a space where people living with cancer and their carers can step away from the uncertainty for a moment — with no pressure to perform and no expectation to be anywhere other than where they are.

His approach is shaped by years of teaching, lived experience and an understanding of how deeply cancer can affect not only the person diagnosed, but those who love them.

For Paul, it's about creating space to stop, breathe and feel supported.

Sometimes, there is strength in stillness.
