Shire of Dismal Fogs

Photos from our Winter Solstice event yesterday in Faulconbridge.
We had singing and instrumental music; preparation of blunt arrows for our upcoming combat event in Dubbo in August ('Radburne War'), and people sewing, and children playing, and then after sunset, warming soup by candlelight.

It was good to celebrate the shortest day together, and now the seasons turn. Time to plan for Spring!

Greetings all Foggers & Friends,

Apologies for the late notice (circumstances beyond my control) but we no wconfirmed that have the Bullaburra Progress Association Hall (cnr. GWH & Noble Street) booked for A&S this Sunday (yes tomorrow)!

Bring drinks/Icy poles, fans etc. I think it will be warm.....

Theme: UFO's esp. anything needed making/mending for Festival.
I know Kevin would also like to canvas ideas/sites for 2025 Dismal Fogs Archery. I would like to garner support/ideas for a June event (music & dance afternoon).

& for the dates/times going forward the next few months:

Not in April due to Easter
Sun 18th May (1:30pm - 4pm) - Planning day for the rest of 2025
Sun 15th June (1:30pm - 4pm)

This is a reminder that applications for the position of Captain of Archers of Dismal Fogs are due by 8 December 2024.

Greetings!

Are you keen on seeing archery flourish in Dismal Fogs? Then your group needs you to hit the target of Captain of Archers! Want to know more?

Key requirements:

You will need to be a current SCA member, 18 years or older
Have knowledge and understanding of the Society and Kingdom rules as they pertain to combat archery, target archery and thrown weapons
Reliable and responsive access to email and internet connection
Ability to keep on top of a variety of related administrative tasks
Key elements of the job:

encouraging the development of combat standards and chivalry on the field in all actions involving archery and other projectile weapons, in co-operation with the Marshallate
maintaining and enforcing the Kingdom standards for construction and use of projectile weapons and armour for plumed combatants
maintaining and enforcing safety standards
making regulations and information concerning target and combat archery available
reporting as required

Greetings Foggers & Friends,

The silly season has rolled around again (wasn't it only 6 months ago??) & time to garner feedback on who wants a Shire get together picnic in the park/pot luck feast if you want to contribute.

I would propose Blast Furnace Park Lithgow again as it was a fabulous venue last year - trees with shade plus lots great places for the kids to run around & explore.

What of the following dates would people be able to make (yes I know FOG weekend is amongst the list):

Do you like handling money? Know how to read a balance sheet? Understand the difference between surplus and profit?

Then Dismal Fogs needs you! Our Reeve is soon to step down and requires a successor to take on the oversight of our group finances.

Key requirements:

You will need to be a current SCA member, 18 years or older
Reliable and responsive access to email and internet
Ability to keep on top of a variety of related administrative tasks
Some prior relevant experience
Key responsibilities:

Managing the finances and regular reporting on such
Managing Dismal Fogs accounts, including being involved in checking event/purchase budgets and approval of expenditure
Maintaining electronic records; familiarity with Xero and Excel is valuable (support and training are available!)
Developing and maintaining appropriate financial procedures, and keeping up to date with relevant financial policies
Assisting event stewards with the event budgeting and post-event reporting process

Your Shire Needs You....

Thalia's time as Reeve is coming to an end this month & we need someone to step in and take on this important (Greater) officer role as Dismal Fogs must have a Reeve as part of Kingdom law.

As reeve you are a vital part of the financial decision-making process for Dismal Fogs, attending monthly Shire business meetings & would work with event stewards & others within the Shire whilst overseeing the Shire Westpac bank account & approving expenditure, monitoring incoming payments & overseeing & approving outgoing payments as needed including to Corporate & Kingdom.

There are a few admin duties requiring management of a Dropbox folder & the use of Xero software but the outgoing Shire Reeve & Kingdom Lochac Exchequer will assist with providing all the training needed to carry out this role - you definitely won't be on your own!
