"Madinati: Every Story Shapes Our City”: An Interactive Visual Art Exhibition

The Arabic Language and Culture Association of South Australia (ALCASA) warmly invites you to view “Madinati: Every Story Shapes Our City” from 17 April to 13 May at the Minor Works Building Community Centre (during the Centre’s opening hours).

Madinati (My City), is a visual art exhibition about Adelaide and the many cities we carry inside us as migrants from our past life experience. Each migrant brings their own memories and images into the city they now call home. Madinati (My City) shows how a city can be built not only from buildings, but also from imagination, memory and personal experience.

Ahmed ElKhalidi is a visual artist based in Adelaide. Before settling here, he lived in the Middle East and other countries and went through experiences that deeply shaped his perspective. Ahmed’s work—across painting, mixed media and digital collage—explores memory, place, identity and the sense of belonging that comes with living far from home.

Rua Hashlamoun, is a principal architect at Brown Falconer and has lived in Adelaide for over ten years. Her practice focuses on how people experience cities and how identity is shaped through public space.
The artists, Ahmed and Rua, offer a unique opportunity to engage with others in an interactive visual art workshop held on Sunday 26 April (2:00 PM to 4:30 PM). Participants will be invited to explore the exhibition in depth and gain insight into the stories and memories that foster a sense of belonging across our city.

The Honourable Mira El Dannawi MLC warmly invites you to share the upcoming Mums and Bubs event celebrating World Read Aloud Day 2026. World Read Aloud Day is a global celebration held annually on the first Wednesday of February. It emphasises the power of reading aloud to foster literacy, build community connections, and share the joy of storytelling across cultures and generations.

This free event will be held;
On: Wednesday, 4th February 2026
From: 10.30am-12noon
At: Adelaide Botanic Garden (Nelumbo Pond)

This special event aims to promote early literacy for infants and babies (aged 0–3 years) by highlighting the importance of reading aloud from birth. Reading together supports language development, strengthens parent–child bonds, and lays the foundation for lifelong learning particularly for children growing up in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.

As a strong advocate for multicultural communities, Mira is keen to ensure families from diverse cultural and language backgrounds feel welcome and included. We would greatly appreciate your support in forwarding this invitation to parents and carers, who may have a child aged 0 to 3 years and would benefit from a free, inclusive and literacy-focused event.

All participants are requested to RSVP directly to our office, as children who are registered will receive a goodie bag at the event.
Mira El Dannawi MLC
