BikeSA attended RAA’s Road Safety Roundtable yesterday as part of National Road Safety Week.

The discussion focused on two important issues for South Australia: regional road safety, and the growing use of e-bikes, e-scooters and other personal mobility devices.

Road safety is about people. Every crash affects someone, their family and their community.

For BikeSA, e-bikes and e-scooters are a positive part of the transport mix. They can help people make short trips without a car, save money and stay active. But safety needs to keep up, with clearer rules, better education, safer speeds and better infrastructure.

Regional road safety was also a key part of the conversation, especially on roads where higher speeds, longer distances and limited shoulders can make mistakes much more serious.

Thanks to RAA for bringing people together and for launching its e-scooter and e-bike safety campaign during National Road Safety Week.

BikeSA looks forward to continuing to support safer roads and paths for everyone.

The Torrens to Darlington Alliance has advised that the shared use path along the River Torrens will be closed between the points shown on the map for around 6 months while construction works are underway.

Is it actually a legal requirement to have your bike lights on between sunset and sunrise?

Short answer: yes.

In South Australia, riders must have:

⚪ A white light on the front
🔴 A red light on the rear
🟥 A red rear reflector

And they need to be clearly visible at night or in low light/hazardous conditions.
