🌳💛 We’ll be there.

The Graham F. Smith Peace Foundation has been closely watching, supporting and participating in the community response to the destruction of trees and habitat connected to the government’s golf course development at Pirltawardli (Possum Park).

Now, with Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi being targeted as part of the MotoGP plans, it is more important than ever that the community continues to show up through peaceful, visible and respectful action.

Tying yellow ribbons around trees is a simple but powerful gesture. A reminder that these trees are not just obstacles to development - they are part of Adelaide’s living landscape, supporting wildlife, shade, history and community wellbeing.

We stand behind our trees, our wildlife and the people advocating for the protection of our Park Lands. Peaceful protest matters, and we encourage anyone who cares about these spaces to join the ribbon tying gathering this Saturday.

A reminder ...

Laws to restrict protests in NSW following the Bondi Beach terrorist attack have been struck down by the Court of Appeal as unconstitutional. Chief Justice Andrew Bell ruled the laws “impermissibly burdened” the right to freedom of political communication under Australia’s constitution.
Executive Director of the Sydney Peace Foundation, Melanie Morrison, said:
“As restrictive NSW protest laws are struck down as unconstitutional, we are reminded that the right to protest is a fundamental human right, a cornerstone of any society that calls itself just and free.”

I poured my heart and soul into writing this book when I was at my most broken from the way Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are treated in this country. When I finished it, I was rebuilt, stronger - ready to keep campaigning for justice and recognition.

If you’ve wondered what you can do to fight racism against First Nations People, to help close the gap, to stop deaths in custody, to learn the history of our struggle or just make the world a better place, this book that I wrote exists to inspire you and guide you to take action.

Look it up online or ask your local book shop for a copy. I narrated the audio book in my own voice.

🕯️ Finding Light in the Darkness

On the first night of Chanukah, a terrorist attack targeted Sydney’s Jewish community at Bondi Beach — a place of joy, now marked by grief.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with the victims, families, survivors, and heroes who ran toward danger to save lives.

How you can respond with care:

🕯️ Put a candle in your window (battery-operated recommended)
✍️ Sign the NSW Online Condolence Book https://www.nsw.gov.au/nsw-government/bondi-beach-attack -online-condolence-book
🕯️ Attend a local vigil
💙 Check in on Jewish friends, neighbours, colleagues

As the Australian flag flies at half-mast today, we reaffirm:
Hate has no home here. Peace is built through justice — and love in action.
