Our Community Food Hub is now open Fridays! 🎉

Great news, BaptistCare’s Community Food Hub in Adelaide’s CBD is expanding to five days a week, starting this Friday, 4 September!

Shop with dignity and choice for low-cost groceries, with free fruit, vegetables and bread with every purchase. No referral is needed to shop, just an eligible concession or ImmiCard.

This winter, when South Australia's coldest weather hit, the WestCare Centre opened its doors to people experiencing homelessness during Code Blue activations.

Over June, July and August, our BaptistCare team provided more than 700 services and 218 overnight stays, helping people access warmth, meals, showers, laundry facilities and a safe place to sleep.

Just as importantly, guests told us they felt safe, supported and protected from the weather, with survey ratings above 9 out of 10 across every category.

Thank you to our staff, volunteers and community who helped make a difference during some of the coldest nights of the year.

A Code Blue response has been called for Monday, 24 August, due to Adelaide’s wet and wintry conditions. BaptistCare's WestCare Centre will remain open overnight, providing dinner and a safe, warm place to sleep and take shelter from the cold.

Opening hours:

Kitchen volunteers needed at our WestCare Centre! 🧑‍🍳

Our WestCare Centre serves more than 650 breakfasts and lunches a week to anyone in our community who's hungry and we urgently need more hands to keep up.

We're looking for kitchen support volunteers to work alongside our wonderful chef, Gary, in our fully equipped kitchen in the city.

The role:
- Assist in preparing breakfasts and lunches, weekdays
- Flexible commitment from one day a week up to 15 hours, any weekday
- No experience needed, we're happy to teach on the job
- We'll support you through onboarding, including clearances if needed

This week in Sydney, we recognised 29 exceptional employees and volunteers, along with one outstanding team, at the 2026 BaptistCare Excellence Awards. These awards celebrate the people who bring our I ACT values of Inclusion, Accountability, Compassion and Teamwork to life every day.

From supporting older people to live safely and independently at home, to helping families through difficult times, creating welcoming communities and delivering outstanding care, each recipient has made a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

With Homelessness Week here, it's timely to reflect on what was a big month for Code Blue at WestCare Centre.đź’™

Over eight nights, 152 people had somewhere warm and safe to sleep, and a total of 283 people were welcomed in from the cold and wet, offered shelter, a warm meal, and treated with dignity.

We also ran 5 extended hours services until around 5pm, bringing the overall total to 390 people supported throughout July.

When the weather turns dangerous and a Code Blue is called, BaptistCare opens the chapel doors, and it's about more than just a roof. People get a hot meal, a sleeping bag of their own to keep, a shower, clean laundry, and a chance to connect with support that can help turn things around.

A huge thank you to our staff and volunteers who made this happen. Your time, energy, and kindness has helped so many people this winter.

This Homelessness Week (3–9 August), we're standing with the growing number of Australians facing housing insecurity and homelessness.

On any given night, more than 122,000 people across the country are experiencing homelessness. Domestic and family violence remains one of the leading causes, alongside cost of living pressures, health issues and job loss.

At BaptistCare, we walk alongside people at every stage of this journey. From crisis accommodation and affordable, social and community housing, to meals, trauma-informed counselling and outreach through our WestCare Centre and HopeStreet centres, we offer safety, dignity and a path toward long-term stability.

This week, and every week, everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
