🍲 Dharma Kitchen – April Community Lunch & Festival of Rice Preview πŸŽ‰

What an incredible day it was on Saturday, 11 April!

We were delighted to welcome over 220 members of the community who joined us for a very special Dharma Kitchen, combined with a Festival of Rice precursor event in partnership with the City of Unley.

🌟 The morning began with a vibrant cultural program, including:

Bharatanatyam and classical vocal performances
Chanting and bhajans by children from Saraswati Community School
Musical performances by our talented young artists

🍽️ This was followed by an engaging live food demonstration and tasting session, attended by around 80 participants, featuring:

Dabeli (also known as Vada Pav-style preparation)
Idli with coconut chutney
Bhel Puri

The highlight of the day was our community lunch, where over 220 guests enjoyed a freshly prepared Indian vegetarian meal. The response was overwhelming β€” so much so that we ran out of chairs and many happily sat on the floor, sharing a meal together in true community spirit πŸ™

We were honoured to have the presence of:

Hon. Nadine Clancy MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs
Councillor Don Palmer
Matthew, Vanessa, Jennifer and team from the City of Unley

Minister Clancy also addressed the gathering, appreciating the spirit of community, culture, and inclusiveness that the event represented.

πŸ™ A heartfelt thank you to the City of Unley for their continued support in making this event such a success.

πŸš€ What’s Next?

We are excited to share that Dharma Kitchen is evolving into:

πŸ‘‰ Flavours of India – Community Lunch
(a Dharma Kitchen initiative)

We are also exploring the introduction of a morning tea service very soon: stay tuned!

πŸ“… We look forward to welcoming you all again at our next event in May.

Thank you to our amazing volunteers and everyone who joined us, this is what community looks like ❀️
