Proposal for Kitwek Membership Fee Review

Dear Kitwek Members,

I would like to propose that we review the current Kitwek membership fees at our upcoming Annual General Meeting, scheduled for 6 November 2026.

Since Kitwek SA commenced in 2021, the membership fee has remained at $80 for new members and $50 for annual renewal. Over time, I have received considerable feedback from members and potential members, particularly international students, who have expressed that the current $80 joining fee is too high and may discourage them from becoming members.

Since our establishment in 2021, only approximately 350 people have joined Kitwek, while a significant majority of eligible people within our community remain non-members. This suggests that we should consider whether the current membership structure may be creating a barrier to broader participation.

As Chair, I would like to propose that the Annual General Meeting consider reviewing and, if appropriate, amending the current membership fees to a more affordable figure. A reduced fee could encourage greater participation, increase our membership base, and make Kitwek more accessible to students, young people, and other members of our community.

I welcome suggestions and recommendations from all members regarding an appropriate membership and renewal fee. Your feedback will help us have a constructive discussion and make a decision that benefits Kitwek and its members.

Last night, our community came together in support of our sister, Cynthia, following the heartbreaking loss of her brother, Matthew Kibiwot.

It was a solemn evening as members of the community surrounded Cynthia and her family with words of comfort, love, and encouragement, reminding her that she is not alone during this difficult time.

To Cynthia and the entire family, please accept our deepest condolences. May you find comfort, strength, and peace in the love and support of those around you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of your beloved Matthew. May his soul Rest in Eternal Peace. Mutyo missing.

We have successfully secured a venue for a candle-lighting and prayer gathering in support of Cynthia and her family following the loss of their beloved family member, Matthew Kibiwot.

Time: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Let us come together to show our love, prayers and support during this difficult time. Please remember to bring a candle for the candle-lighting ceremony.

Please also keep Cynthia in your thoughts and prayers as she will be traveling home on Thursday.
