SA Rainbow Advocacy Alliance We’re the peak body championing the health, safety & inclusion of LGBTIQA+ South Australians.

Any electoral matter is authorised by Varo, South Australian Rainbow Advocacy Alliance Inc., Adelaide. SA Rainbow Advocacy Alliance is the member-powered peak body for LGBTIQA+ South Australians and the sector that supports us. We know that LGBTIQA+ South Australians can live happy, healthy and safe lives when we're supported and affirmed by our friends, families, schools, workplaces, service prov

iders, governments and communities. Yet we continue to face discrimination, hate and inequality that leads to poorer mental health and wellbeing outcomes. We work to make change to laws, policies and systems that perpetuate inequity to promote inclusion and improve the quality of LGBTIQA+ South Australian lives.

Le***an Visibility Week has got us reflecting on some of the trailblazing women who made South Australia a braver, bolder and more inclusive place to play sport.

The Adelaide Armpits were Australia's first openly le***an football (soccer) club, founded in 1982 to create a safe, welcoming space for q***r women to compete, connect and just be themselves. Their legacy still inspires community sport today.

If you're a q***r young person, would LGBTIQA+ clubs like The Armpits help you feel more confident getting active?

📣 We need your help to develop community-led solutions to tackle LGBTIQA+ hate and discrimination in South Australia.

Join us for the first in a series of community conversations to generate innovative ideas and refine concepts into workable on-the-ground solutions that tackle rising hate and discrimination.

Our CEO Varo will facilitate the discussion using real world de-identified case studies of anti-LGBTIQA+ hate in South Australia, and solutions operating interstate and internationally.

Held in a spirit of healing, this session will explore how to build our shared knowledge and strengthen ways to support each other in the face of stigma and discrimination.

We're devastated to hear of the loss of Dr Ellen Fraser-Barbour.

Many of us know Ellen as an intelligent, thoughtful and kind advocate who made a significant impact for the disability rights movement in South Australia.

Ellen will be deeply missed by many, and we're sending love and solidarity to those close to her.

Sometimes it helps to connect when you're grieving. If you need support, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14, Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636, or Griefline on 1300 845 745.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden and unexpected loss of our cherished colleague and friend, Dr Ellen Fraser-Barbour.

Ellen's contribution to our work, and the disability rights movement more broadly is immeasurable and the disability community is better for it.

The legacy she leaves will guide our advocacy into the future and we consider it a privilege to further the important work that she started.

This is a profoundly difficult time for everyone at JFA Purple Orange and the Julia Farr group as we process the enormity of Ellen’s loss. She made a lasting impact on our organisation and on all those she worked alongside, and she will be deeply missed.

If this news has raised feelings of grief or distress, support is available. Please reach out to Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636.

South Australia showed up in full colour last weekend.

🌈 Pride of the Hills brought more than 350 people together in the Adelaide Hills for a joyful celebration of LGBTIQA+ community, proudly coordinated by Mount Barker District Council

🏳️‍⚧️ Trans Day of Visibility was marked with a powerful panel hosted by Trans Justice Adelaide and the City of Charles Sturt, centring trans voices, leadership and lived experience.

These moments remind us just how impactful local government can be when it works with community to champion visibility, safety and inclusion.

If your council is looking to strengthen its commitment to LGBTIQA+ people, explore our Rainbow Council Toolkit and Network, proudly supported by the Local Government Association of South Australia - practical guidance to help local leaders uplift our communities every day.

Today we recognise International Asexuality Day - a moment to celebrate Ace communities and the full asexual spectrum. Asexuality is a valid sexual orientation, and Ace people form rich, diverse relationships across romantic, platonic and other forms of connection.

Asexual South Australians have been clear about what matters: ending conversion practices, safer and more inclusive health services, and better access to gender‑affirming care. We stand with them.
