Better late than never we say!

Just how beautiful was our course on the weekend? An eeerie silence hung in the thick fog for The Avenues parkrun, Event number 271... But the silence was stunning? And the fog mystical and magical!

Whenever I mention that I am attending The Avenues parkrun, the usual response I get is, it’s so far away, but is it? 52kms from Adelaide railway station, and to us Aussies, c’mon, what is 50kms?

In 1898, Kuitpo was the first of many plantations set in the Mt Lofty Ranges. It was created so that Adelaide would have a sustainable timber supply, or so says Wikipedia !!!

As a venue, Kuitpo has much to offer the tourist (other than parkrun, but hey, what other reason is there to visit !!!), you can walk the Heysen Trail, visit hill climb, or as I just wrote, come to The Avenues parkrun

On the 29th of May, in 2021, the very first one lapper in South Australia was born. A trail run, no fumes, no noise, just 55 runners, koalas, kangaroos and an elusive echidna !!! And from the start, this made it a special parkrun

The parkrun, as a venue, never grew big, maybe it was the thought of it being so far away, but that never stopped the legions of tourists or the dedicated team of core volunteers, because hey, as a runner, it is part of the Radelaide set, and once run once, there is a fairly high turnover of returnees

After a couple of weeks of rain, event number 270 was run, walked and jogged by 36 people and yes it was muddy, slippery, slidy but SPECTACULAR! Even better, the roos were out with their joey's in tow!

Today was an extra special day, now we all know what happens in the 22nd don't we? TUTUS! And ok, a few people forgot πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ but we had some pretty snazzy tutu toting tail walkers today. Say that fast!

Speaking of fast! Today's PB's!
πŸ”₯ Stephen Shears
πŸ”₯ Brad Middleton
πŸ”₯ Peter Cook (never a doubt!)
πŸ”₯ Scott Wellington
πŸ”₯ Kathy Frith

And finally, parkrun can only exist with the volunteers, and this week, we must thank the following legends, Lucy GLEDHILL, David MURRAY, Heidi BETTONEY, Liz PROWSE, Alex KIRKHAM, Jane MATERNE, Steven TILEY, Sue DAVITT, thanks guys

Thanks,

David Murray

We know its is winter still and can get cold and wet (not as much as this pic though). Just need a timekeeper, and two early finishers to barcode scan and hand out tokens.
A lot of parkruns around the state struggle with vollies, please consider supporting parkrun as a volunteer. It's one of the best health initiatives around.
