The Boland School for Autism aims to be an autism specific school.

The Boland School for Autism aims to be an autism specific school that offers education based on the needs and special abilities of the individual learner. This means that every learner’s skills are thoroughly assessed by a team of professionals (Occupational Therapist, Educational Psychologist, Speech Therapist and Educators) together with the learners' parents in order to determine every learner's specific educational goals. This will provide the children with the opportunity to learn and grow within a social environment along with their peers – an environment that respects every child's uniqueness and promotes learning and development. We are therefore committed to providing specialised education and facilities for our learners, as well as the continual professional training of staff to render the best service possible.

X-Pen: Technology Supporting Learning

The X-Pen is a simple but valuable tool that helps the learners from Boland School for Autism access written information more easily. It can be especially helpful for learners on the autism spectrum and those with dyslexia who may experience challenges with reading and word recognition.

The X-Pen scans words and text and reads them aloud, allowing learners to both see and hear the words. This can support reading comprehension, vocabulary development and overall confidence when working with written material.

One of its greatest benefits is the independence it encourages. Learners can check unfamiliar words or sections of text themselves, without always needing to rely on an adult for assistance.

Technology like the X-Pen helps create more inclusive and accessible classrooms, giving every learner the opportunity to learn, participate and grow in a way that works for them.

This special event always brings people together for a great afternoon, and the Mix & Match Madness theme added plenty of fun, creativity, and colourful surprises! 😄💙

On the 28th of August, the Boland School for Autism hosted its annual Entrepreneur’s Day and what a wonderful morning of learning, laughter and entrepreneurship it was!

The aim of the day was to give the learners the opportunity to experience buying and selling in a safe and supportive environment. They had a fantastic turnout from both learners and parents, and it was wonderful to see the effort and creativity that went into the day.

The school entrance and playground were brightened up with balloons and festive decorations, while each class had its own clearly marked selling station. The learners took turns, class by class, to visit the different stalls while other learners remained behind to sell their products.

Most importantly, the learners had huge smiles and thoroughly enjoyed the morning while gaining valuable practical experience with money, buying, selling and customer interaction.
