AmazingBrainz Investing in early childhood development to initiate deep social change in southern Africa. www.amazingbrainz.org

AmazingBrainz is a South African registered non-profit company (NPC) founded in 2008. Our AmazingBrainz early childhood development programmes have been specifically designed for the unique southern African context, particularly for marginalised communities. The programmes were developed by a multi-disciplinary team under the guidance of neuro-scientist, Dr Etienne van der Walt and are grounded in the latest understanding of human brain development. We believe in an integrated approach to whole child development that incorporates aspects of health and social development with education. Whole child development refers to an approach to pre-school stimulation and development of children that impacts individuals in a sustained, holistic manner. Programmes are also age-specific, with a carefully mapped out day programme for each age-group from 3 months to 5 years old. The approach also aims to catch up lags in developmental milestones often found in children growing up in poor socio-economic conditions and maximises school readiness and learning capacity of children before they turn six. Investment in Early Childhood Development has been shown to yield the highest rate of return on investment in human development. This is the focus of AmazingBrainz - working with teachers and children in pre-schools to have a sustained impact on the community at large.

There are ways for businesses and organisations to get involved with AmazingBrainz and support early childhood development.

As a registered NPC and PBO, AmazingBrainz works with companies, organisations and individuals to support educators, pre-schools and children in communities across South Africa.

For businesses looking to fulfil their CSI obligations, partnering with AmazingBrainz provides an opportunity to contribute towards meaningful ECD initiatives. Donations can also qualify for a Section 18A tax certificate, subject to the applicable requirements.

In partnership with GWK, the AmazingBrainz team recently visited Kimberley to conduct the first training session with educators from two farm schools, Genade Boerdery and Wildeklawer.

This marked the beginning of a meaningful journey of growth, learning and new opportunities for the educators and, ultimately, for the young children they support every day.

How do we do it?

Lasting change in early childhood development takes more than a once-off intervention. It requires investment, collaboration, training and ongoing support.

AmazingBrainz partners with ECD centres, educators, communities and funders to share context-specific programmes, train and mentor educators, and track progress over time.

Many of the centres we support cannot afford these services, so our work is made possible through social investors and funding partners.

Why invest in ECD?

Because the earliest years shape lifelong learning and development. This is when the foundations of a child’s future are built.

Like beads carefully strung together, each experience adds to a child’s growth—forming something strong, connected and meaningful.

The return is not only what a child learns today, but the opportunities they have tomorrow.

Sometimes, the best classroom is right outside the door.

Through our ongoing relationship with the PaL Netherlands team, we continue to exchange ideas and approaches that strengthen play-based learning in early childhood development settings.

In one of our recent PaL activities, children explored the shapes found in nature.
Leaves. Flowers. Stones. Clouds. Branches.

With a little imagination, the world around us becomes a rich learning environment.

Activities like these remind us how powerful simple, play-based learning experiences can be. By encouraging children to explore what is already around them, we create opportunities for them to observe, compare, describe, create and solve problems.

At AmazingBrainz, our play-based learning programmes are designed to stimulate important developmental milestones through meaningful, age-appropriate activities.

When children are given opportunities to explore the world around them, we give them more than something to do. We give them opportunities to think, discover, learn and make sense of their world.
