Meet Evie, our Animal of the Week!

Evie absolutely loves spending time in our play pens, where she can run around, play and enjoy herself.

As much as she loves her playtime, what she would love even more is a family to call her own.

Our team attended the Western Cape Animal Welfare Summit 2026, where welfare organisations, municipalities, government and specialists came together to strengthen animal protection across the province.

From cruelty and prosecutions to farm animals, wildlife, humane education and municipal responsibilities, the summit created an important space to share knowledge, build stronger connections and improve how we work together.

For us, it was about learning, connecting and bringing better ideas back to the Garden Route so we can do more for the animals who depend on us.

If You Profit From Animals, You Are Responsible for Their Care.

Hawking sites are places where informal traders sell goods to the public, often along roadsides or at markets. Sometimes these goods include live animals sold for food. While we do not support the sale of live animals, it is our responsibility to protect their welfare.

During a recent inspection, Field Officer Elfonzo found chickens without drinking water. He immediately provided clean water and issued a Notice to Comply.

Anyone making money from animals is responsible for meeting their welfare needs. Every animal deserves proper care throughout its life.

Our work goes beyond inspections. Through education, we teach people to understand their animals’ needs and do better by them. We also explain that healthier, well-cared-for animals can mean fewer losses and a better income. Caring for their animals is also in their own interest.
Regular follow-up visits help us ensure that what is taught is put into practice and that improvements in animal care are maintained.

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy.

Their family was heartbroken when they had to surrender their two loving dogs. They have known what it means to be loved and cared for and now they are hoping to find that love again.
