Founded in 1949, the Garden Route SPCA has grown from a small George branch into one of South Africa’s largest SPCAs, protecting animals from Mossel Bay to Oudtshoorn. We rescue, treat, sterilise, educate, and enforce the law — stepping in where no one else can when animals suffer. It costs over R1.5 million every month to keep this lifesaving work going. We’re here for the animals because the com

Wishing every family only the best as you begin this new journey together.

Thank you for choosing adoption and for supporting your local SPCA. Because of you, these animals have been given a second chance. Many arrived at our SPCA after being surrendered, abandoned, or left behind. Today, they have a place to call home and people to love them.

Thank you for changing their lives. We wish you many happy years and wonderful memories together.

Happy Birthday, Enrico!

Thank you for everything you do in our clinic. We know some days are incredibly difficult but you continue to show up for the animals who need you most.

Your compassion, dedication and hard work make a difference every day and we are so grateful to have you as part of our SPCA team.

Wishing you a wonderful birthday and a fantastic year ahead!

This is your last chance!

Don’t know what to do tonight? Looking for some last minute plans? Come and join us for an evening of great food, great company and a great cause.

We only have 17 tickets left, so don’t miss out!

Every ticket helps us sterilise more animals and make a difference in their lives.

You’ll also spot Violet in this video. Violet is still looking for a loving home of her own and has been waiting far too long for someone to choose her. We would love nothing more than to see her find the family she deserves.

Get all the event details and secure your ticket on our Quicket page. We can’t wait to see you there!

When bringing a newly adopted dog home, remember that adjustment takes time. Keep the environment calm and predictable at first, focusing on food, water, rest, and helping your dog feel safe.

As they become more comfortable, establish consistent feeding, walking, and sleeping routines. Introduce household rules gently and allow them to explore their new home at their own pace.

Continue building trust through patience, positive interactions, training, and gradual socialisation. Every dog is different. Some settle in quickly while others need more time. The key is consistency, patience, and making them feel secure in their new home.

No matter what we have been through, we have always had each other.

The four of us have come a long way and are now safe in the care of the SPCA. While our stories may be different, we all share the same dream of finding loving homes where we will be cherished and cared for.

We are ready to leave the past behind and start a new chapter filled with kindness, comfort and brighter days.

Could one of us be the perfect addition to your family?

Many people buy rabbits without realising that they have very specific needs and require lots of love and affection. Sadly, many end up being surrendered to the SPCA when people underestimate the commitment involved.

Rabbits are lovely family pets for both children and adults. They need love and affection as well as proper care. They can even be taught to use a litter box and can become very domesticated. With safe spaces to explore and a family that understands their needs, rabbits make wonderful companions.

During an outreach in New Dawn Park our team found this little girl living on a chain so short and tight that she could barely move and struggled to breathe.

As no one was home at the time a warning was issued and our team did everything possible to improve her living conditions while we waited to follow up.

When we returned to ensure the warning had been complied with we were met with a wonderful surprise. She was no longer confined to the chain. A caring neighbour had stepped in and taken her under their wing. She was roaming freely with the other animals and finally experiencing the freedom every dog deserves.

Thank you to this community member for changing the course of this dog’s life. Sometimes all it takes is one person willing to step in and make a difference.
