Please help us to help those struggling with he**in addiction, especially those living in the streets of George.

🌟 Final Day of Our 3-Day Bound Life Skills Program – A Powerful Finish at New Dawn Park Primary 🌟

All glory and honor unto God who made it possible for this program.

What an incredible way to conclude our 3-Day Bound Life Skills Program at New Dawn Park Primary School!

On our final day, we took time to recap and reflect on all the important lessons shared over the past two days. Learners were reminded of the key topics we covered, including choices and consequences, purpose, peer pressure.

We talked about the different types of drugs and once again highlighted the serious effects they have on the body, including damage to the:
• Brain – affecting thinking, focus, and decision-making
• Lungs – impacting breathing and overall health
• Kidneys – affecting the body’s ability to function properly

We also spoke about the devastating long-term consequences of substance abuse and how these choices can impact not only the individual but their families and future.

One of the most uplifting parts of the session was introducing the concept of a “natural high.” We explained that a natural high comes from positive and healthy experiences—such as achieving goals, participating in sport, helping others, growing spiritually, and pursuing your dreams. Learners were encouraged to seek out these positive highs instead of turning to harmful substances.

To close off the program, we shared a powerful and emotional video by Nick Vujicic. In his testimony, he spoke about his struggles with depression, heartbreak, and even thoughts of su***de, and how he overcame those challenges to live a life filled with purpose and hope through the grace of God.

His message reminded learners that:
💬 It does not matter who you are or what you are facing—you can still rise above your circumstances and live a life of purpose.

The session left a deep impact on many learners, and it was clear that the message of hope, resilience, and purpose truly resonated.

As we come to the end of this journey, we are proud of every learner who participated and engaged with open hearts. Our prayer and hope is that they will carry these lessons with them and make choices that lead to a free, healthy, and purpose-driven life.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who made this program possible.

🔥 Day 2 at New Dawn Park Primary – Bound Multimedia Life Skills Program 🔥

Today we focused on one of the most serious and life-impacting topics—the dangers and consequences of substance use, specifically ci******es and alcohol.

We had honest and eye-opening discussions about smoking and how ci******es affect the body. Learners were taught about the damage smoking causes to the lungs, the long-term health risks, and how addiction can start at a young age and become difficult to break.

A major focus of the day was on alcohol and its effects. We explained how alcohol is a depressant, meaning it slows down brain function and affects the way a person thinks, feels, and makes decisions. Many learners were surprised to learn how alcohol impacts not just behaviour, but also the body in serious ways.

We spoke about the devastating effects of alcohol on the body, including damage to the:
• Brain – affecting thinking, memory, and decision-making
• Lungs – especially when combined with smoking
• Pancreas – leading to serious health complications
• Overall physical and mental health

One of the most impactful parts of the session was discussing the dangers of drinking and driving. We shared the real-life story of Chackie Subirido, whose life was tragically changed forever due to a drunk driver. Her story deeply moved the learners and helped them understand that one bad decision can have lifelong consequences—not only for themselves, but for others as well.

We also addressed how alcohol weakens inhibitions, making it easier for individuals to make poor choices. This includes getting involved in risky behaviours, such as unsafe sexual relationships, which can lead to further emotional, physical, and life-changing consequences.

Throughout the session, learners were engaged, reflective, and responsive. It was clear that the message reached them—not just in their minds, but in their hearts.

💬 One decision can change your life—choose wisely.

✨ Day 1 at New Dawn Park Primary – Bound Multimedia Life Skills Program ✨

What an incredible and impactful start to our 3-Day Bound Multimedia Life Skills Program at New Dawn Park Primary School!

Day 1 was all about laying the foundation—helping learners understand who they are, the value of their lives, and the importance of the choices they make every day.

We began by sharing a powerful message about God’s plan and purpose for each and every individual. We encouraged learners to see their lives as meaningful and valuable, reminding them that they are not here by accident, but that each one of them has a unique purpose.

One of the key discussions focused on choices and consequences. We spoke about how every decision we make—big or small—has an impact, not only on ourselves but also on the people around us. Learners began to understand that their actions can affect their families, friends, and future in ways they may not always realise.

A powerful visual that stood out during the session was the concept of the “Free Chair” and the “Bound Chair.”
We explained how positive choices can keep you in the Free Chair—a place of freedom, growth, and opportunity. However, negative choices can lead you to the Bound Chair—a place where you may feel trapped by consequences such as addiction, poor decisions, or harmful behaviours.

We also had honest conversations about how easy it is to move from the Free Chair to the Bound Chair, but how it can take years to find your way back. This really challenged learners to think deeply about the decisions they are making right now.

The learners were engaged, thoughtful, and open during the session, and it was encouraging to see them reflect on their lives and futures.

This is only the beginning, and we are excited for what the next two days will bring as we continue to equip and empower these young lives.

💬 Your choices today shape your tomorrow.

People Against Substance Abuse had the privilege of visiting Vredendal Noord Primary School as part of our Annual Campaign where we spent time with four Grade 7 classes speaking to learners about Healthy Choices, Healthy Relationships, and the consequences of bad choices and substance abuse.

Our team also shared our personal stories of bad choices, drug abuse, and addiction, reminding learners that the decisions they make today can shape their future. By being honest about our own journeys, we hope to inspire young people to make wiser choices and to understand that their lives have value and purpose.

Thank you to the school and teachers for giving us the opportunity to invest in the lives of these young learners. Together we can empower the next generation to choose a healthier, brighter future. 💙

Last week PASA had the privilege of visiting the 1-year students at Van Kervel School for an impactful and meaningful awareness session.

During our visit, we engaged learners in important discussions about substance abuse, peer pressure, and decision-making. Our goal was not only to inform them about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, but also to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy life choices.

We spoke openly about:
• What substance abuse is and how it affects young people
• The dangers of drugs and alcohol on the body
• How substance abuse impacts the brain, especially at a young age when it is still developing
• The long-term effects on health, memory, behaviour, and academic performance
• How peer pressure can influence decision-making
• Practical ways to say “no” and stand firm in their values

One of the key focus areas was helping learners understand how substance abuse can damage the brain, affect concentration, lower self-control, and influence future opportunities. We encouraged them to think about their dreams and goals, and how the choices they make today can shape their tomorrow.

The learners were engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and participated actively in discussions. It was encouraging to see their willingness to learn and their desire to make positive choices.

At PASA, we believe that prevention starts with education. By speaking to learners at an early stage, we are helping to build resilience, confidence, and awareness that can protect them in the future.

We would like to thank Van Kervel School for welcoming us and for partnering with us in investing in the wellbeing of their learners.

Together, we can build a generation that is informed, empowered, and substance-free.

If your school would like PASA to visit, please contact us. Let’s work together to protect our youth.
