United to do good! With Rotary club of Atlantis, our wonderful member Josie Norfolk helped out with a much-needed fridge (or, in just a few days, beanies and scarves to keep the children warm, and a fridge to keep the food cold in the United sanctuary against abuse!).

Winter is coming in the Southern Hemisphere, while some of us enjoy warmer days in the North.
Our Eclub got help from the craft group at Atlantic Beach Estate for the Charity shop. Beanies were knitted, then donated to the children at Zumpie Dumpie preschool in Melkbosstrand. Look at how cute they are! And warm!
The kids at Door of Hope also got theirs, thank you Josie and Vegard!

Join us on Tuesday, 12 May, for an opportunity to be inspired by Dominique Radanyi. Dominique will speak about how what was complicated in her childhood became an advantage later on. She will also unpack how shame became pride when she started her career as a translator and interpreter after so many questions about her true identity.

Meeting ID and password available on demand!

On a beautiful sunny morning, we took a scenic route to go to Betty’s Bay and see the penguins and dassies of Western Cape. After the whaling station closed in the 1930s, African penguins came to breed, the only penguins on the mainland.
It was awesome to see so many of them in one place and to catch a cute little dassie as well!

A visit to the Bizweni Centre for disabled children started with 10 children looked after in a garage. Then in 2010, the Helderberg RC handed over the first building, sponsored by various businesses and Rotary Clubs in the UK and Germany.
In 2016, a further building was completed and commissioned, to accommodate children aged from 13 to 18 years old. Here they were taught life skills and have progressed beautifully. They are taught to also give back to the community.
Then numbers upped to 40 children. Buses were also sponsored to drive the children from their homes to the centre and back. They are taken to on outings to the Aquarium, the fruit farms and shopping.
The Helderberg RC have had the Bizweni Centre as their main project since 2007. They are now raising money for a 3rd building for therapy rooms and a training facility. There are now 70 children and there is a waiting list of 40 students.
We got a wonderful welcome and a gift. Thank you for the good work done with the children and to Pres Joke Young of the Helderberg Rotary Club for the continued efforts!
