🚴‍♂️ Thank you to our incredible Rotary Sea Point volunteers

This past Sunday, 8 March, Cape Town hosted the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour (often still affectionately called the Argus), bringing thousands of cyclists together for one of the world’s most beautiful and celebrated cycling events.

Rotary Sea Point Club would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated volunteers who generously gave their time and energy to assist during the event. Your enthusiasm, teamwork and commitment helped support the cyclists and contributed to the smooth running of this remarkable day.

From early morning preparations to assisting riders along the route, our volunteers represented the very best of the Rotary spirit — stepping forward to serve the community and ensure that participants felt welcomed, supported and safe.

Events of this scale simply would not be possible without the generosity of volunteers who are willing to give their time for the benefit of others.

We are incredibly proud of our Rotary Sea Point members and volunteers who embodied the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.”

Thank you for helping make the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2026 such a memorable success for our city and for everyone who took part.

🌿 Rotary Sea Point supporting youth mental health through creativity, culture and nature

Rotary Sea Point Club is proud to support the Kingdom of Emotions initiative, an educational program created under Cape Diplomatic, which helps children explore emotional wellbeing, empathy and human values through nature, creativity and storytelling.

During a recent session, children explored the theme of love inspired by one of the Western Cape’s most remarkable animals — the African penguin. Penguin parents share the responsibility of protecting their nest and raising their chicks, offering a powerful example of teamwork, care and family values.

While listening to traditional African music, the children coloured mandalas and shared their thoughts about what love means to them. Together they also created a collective mandala using seeds and dried fruits from the Western Cape — mango, peach, macadamia, cashews and seeds. Each child contributed a piece, symbolising how strong communities are built through collaboration and shared responsibility.

The Kingdom of Emotions program promotes mental health awareness, emotional intelligence and community values, helping children learn how to recognise emotions, express themselves and build empathy for others.

Rotary Sea Point proudly supported the printing of the Kingdom of Emotions book, enabling this meaningful program to reach young people in our community.

The initiative was coordinated by Cosmina Zaharescu, Past President of Rotary Sea Point and founder of Cape Diplomatic, and developed in partnership with the Romanian Consulate, with the support of the Consular Corps of Cape Town, and in collaboration with students from Entrepreneurship Academy Bucharest.

Beyond its educational value, the project also contributes to building a stronger bridge between Romania and South Africa, strengthening people-to-people connections and supporting the spirit of Rotary International’s Intercountry Committee (ICC) relationships.

Through initiatives like this, Rotary continues its mission of Service Above Self, supporting programs that strengthen communities, promote wellbeing, and foster international friendship.

🦁 Rotary Sea Point Club Supporting Emotional Learning and Mental Health in Cape Town

The Rotary Sea Point Club is proud to support the Kingdom of Emotions educational project, an initiative developed under the umbrella of Cape Diplomatic in collaboration with students from the Entrepreneurship Academy from Romania.

The project is facilitated by Cosmina Zaharescu, Past President of Rotary Sea Point Club, who continues to support community-based education initiatives that encourage emotional growth, creativity and confidence in young learners.

In our latest session, children explored the value of courage, inspired by the African lion — a symbol of strength, patience and resilience.

Through storytelling and shared safari experiences, the children reflected on fear and bravery, and discussed how we respond to challenges through fight, flight or freeze. They also learned about the importance of patience and calm thinking when facing difficult situations.

The session included a collective mandala activity, where children worked together using simple geometrical shapes to create a shared artwork. This process encouraged cooperation, concentration and creativity while showing how individual contributions can form a meaningful whole.

Through Rotary Sea Point Club’s support, this project provides children in Cape Town with meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, emotional awareness and creative expression.

The Kingdom of Emotions project continues to grow and will contribute to the development of a future educational book inspired by African nature and values.

🌟 A Legacy of Hope at iLitha Educare 🌟

This week, the Sea Point Rotary Club proudly welcomed some of iLitha Educare’s most dedicated champions — Margaret and Ian Travette, together with Ann and Andreus Gross — to our flagship project in Khayelitsha.

More than a visit, it was a heartfelt reunion celebrating a partnership that has supported iLitha since its earliest days. Their unwavering commitment continues to embody Rotary’s spirit of Service Above Self.

This year is especially significant as our inspiring founder, Christina, marks 25 years of tireless dedication to early childhood development and community empowerment. Her vision, supported by committed partners and guided by project leader Amanda Mvinjelwa, continues to shape bright futures.

During the visit, the team reflected on 2025 achievements — including facility improvements and stronger parent engagement — and set clear priorities for 2026 to further strengthen iLitha’s impact.

But the true highlight? The joyful energy and bright smiles of the children, reminding us why this work matters so deeply. 💛

Together, we continue investing in the future — one child at a time.

Well done to an alert member of the public today 👏

At lunchtime on the Promenade, a suspect grabbed a chain off a lady and attempted to flee. Thanks to a quick-thinking resident who flagged down the rangers, and their incredible dog who prevented the suspect from getting away, the individual was apprehended.

They are currently at SAPS and cases are being opened.

Thank you to the public, our rangers, and all involved for acting swiftly. If you see something suspicious, please report it immediately, your actions can make all the difference.

🌿✨ Kingdom of Emotions – Mandala Coloring Therapy ✨🌿 Mental Health and Welness

Dear Rotary Sea Point Family,

Thank you for sponsoring our project “Kingdom of Emotions,” developed in partnership with the students of the Entrepreneurship Academy in Bucharest.

This week we held our second Mandala Coloring Therapy session with children from a Western Cape community — and once again, we witnessed the quiet transformation that happens when creativity meets reflection.

🧠 Session 1: Wisdom – The African Elephant
We spoke about the African elephant — once part of the wildlife that lived right here in the Western Cape. Elephants move in herds, protect their young, and remember ancient paths that lead to water and safety. Their strength comes from unity, memory, and care.

As the children colored their Mandalas, they reflected not only on wisdom as a value — but on the history of their own land and the powerful animals that once walked it.

🎨 Session 2: Creativity – The Cape Chameleon
Inspired by the Cape chameleon — a beautiful species that still populates the Western Cape and Cape Town communities — the children explored how creativity allows us to adapt, find solutions, and recognize opportunity around us.

The chameleon became more than a symbol. It became a lesson from their own landscape.

🌍 The deeper impact
This is the true power of the book we created.
It is not only about quieting the mind through Mandala coloring.
It is not only art therapy.

It is about teaching children to reconnect with their local environment — to learn from the animals of their own region, to understand their natural heritage, and to see themselves as part of something rooted and meaningful.

When we slow down for 10 minutes and color, the mind settles.
When we learn from our landscape, identity strengthens.
The wisdom and creativity we need are already within us — and around us.

Rotary Sea Point’s support makes this powerful, educational and emotional journey possible.

Thank you for believing in this initiative and in the children of our community.

✨ Rotary ‘Unites for Good’ in Stellenbosch ✨

What an inspiring Friday morning spent in fellowship, purpose, and shared vision at the Rotary business breakfast held at the Devon Valley Hotel, celebrating the visit of Francesco Arezzo, President of Rotary International, and his wife Anna Maria.

District Governor Pam warmly welcomed President Arezzo, whose humility, warmth, and humour resonated deeply with all present. We were also honoured to be joined by our Rotary Director, Tanase, from Romania.

In his engaging address, President Arezzo reaffirmed Rotary’s three global priorities:
🔹 Grow membership
🔹 Eradicate Polio
🔹 Build peace through impactful, sustainable projects that truly change lives

We are proud to share that Rotary Sea Point Club was heartfully and professionally represented at this special occasion by our current President Rod Hemphill and Past President Cosmina Zaharescu, reflecting the club’s ongoing commitment to leadership, service, and meaningful connection within the wider Rotary family.

A truly brilliant Rotary morning — rich in vision, fellowship, and sunshine — and a privilege to listen to our International President in person.

Thank you to the organising team for a superb event. 💫
