Common Good is looking for a detail-oriented and people-centred HR professional to join our Education team and support our growing network of Collaboration Schools. If you’re someone who brings structure, care, and integrity to everything you do, and you’re energised by working in dynamic school environments, this role puts you right at the heart of the work.

What You’ll Do:
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and HR operations across partner schools
• Maintain employee records and assist with payroll and benefits administration
• Provide HR support to School Governing Bodies
• Travel nationally to partner schools on a termly basis
• Work closely with school leadership teams and the Common Good Education team

Ideal Start Date: 1 October 2026

This Mandela Day, we had the privilege of opening our doors to volunteers who gave their time to pack food jars, wash packs, and ORT sachets for families in our partner communities. 💚

The response was phenomenal!

To everyone who donated supplies, gave financially, rolled up their sleeves, packed boxes, measured out ingredients, and spent their 67 minutes with us - thank you. Your generosity is deeply appreciated, and its impact will be felt far beyond Friday.

Together, we packed:
🫧 166 wash packs
🥣 427 food jars
🚰 479 ORT sachets

And the impact didn’t stop there. Our Mandela Day Toolkit was downloaded 825 times, equipping individuals, families, churches, schools, and workplaces across South Africa to make a difference in their own communities.

These are more than just numbers. They represent practical care and dignity for families who need it most.

Thank you for reminding us that when people come together with compassion and generosity, meaningful change happens - one act of kindness at a time.

Nosipho is eight months old. She lives with her mother in Langa, in a home where love is plentiful, but food is not always certain. Her mother does everything she can. But cupboards run bare by month's end, and each season, illness sweeps through the neighbourhood, stealing the nourishment little bodies need to grow.

This is the quiet crisis that shapes a generation. Not the dramatic kind of hunger we picture, but the slow, daily kind.

This Mandela Day, we're saying yes for Nosipho, and children like her. And there's a way for you to be part of it. Here's how you can help:
1. Join us on the day. Come pack with us on Friday 17 July and give an hour of your morning to assemble these packs alongside others.
2. Donate the goods. Drop off any of the ingredients or 1L Jars at Common Good and we'll do the rest. (Scroll to see the recipe, these are the donation items)
3. Run the campaign in your own space. Gather your office, friends, family, church or small group and put together your own food jars and drop them with us. Our toolkit has everything you need from the recipes to giving guidelines on how to give well. (Scroll to see the recipe)

We cannot love people we refuse to see.

That line has filtered it's way throughout the series and Part Three is where it asks something of us. Not what we believe, but what we actually do on an ordinary day, in our own homes, streets and circles.

It offers no guilt and no grand plan. Just a gentle invitation to move from feeling something to doing something. A name learned, a table that's made wider. You do not have to do everything. You just have to do something.

Love does not leave us on the other side of the road. It sends us across.

Every statistic is an image bearer.

It is easy, when a crisis fills our screens, to speak in numbers. Thousands displaced. Hundreds of incidents. Percentages and figures that wash over us until we forget what they are made of. But behind every number is a name, a story, a family that packed what it could carry and moved through the night.

Part Two of "Xenophobia and the Church" is out now. It asks a harder question than most of us want to sit with. Not only how we love those who have been driven from their homes, but how we hold on to compassion for everyone caught in this story, without standing at a distance and pointing fingers.

Because a people who know who they are do not need to destroy another to feel secure. And a community shaped by grace is free to love without fear.
We cannot love people we refuse to see.

We're hiring a Northern Cape Instructional Lead.

Real change in a classroom rarely looks dramatic, it looks like a deputy principal who finally has the support to see where learners are getting stuck, and the tools to do something about it. It looks like a teacher trying a new approach and watching it work.

For two and a half years, we've walked alongside three partner schools in the Northern Cape: HTT Bidi Memorial Primary, Ratang Thuto High, and Danielskuil Intermediate. What started as support from a distance grew even stronger the day we had a local team on the ground. Now that team of two is ready to grow.

You'll spend your weeks alongside deputy principals, helping them find the gaps in learner achievement and design the coaching and training that closes those. It's strategic and practical, big-picture thinking and close attention to detail. This is a role for someone who lights up when a school leader thrives. Someone happy to work behind the scenes so others can shine. Someone who believes every child in a no-fee school deserves the chance to reach their full potential.
