And here it is! A look at the Care for the Frontline Workers camp held by Educo Africa in Groot-Winterhoek towards the end of 2021.

The impact of Covid-19 has been mountainous for us all, especially those working in our healthcare spaces daily. Educo Africa’s facilitators held a space for Wola Nani’s HIV Counsellors to reflect and breathe. To be able to step back from the daily pressures of their work and truly sit with themselves and explore what healing looks like in a time like this. The women took the necessary time out to unload and reload for the journey ahead in these uncertain times.

“Like superwoman but with no cape”.

We hope you enjoy this glimpse, a look into our amazing counsellors who give of themselves daily and whose work impacts our communities profoundly.

Thank you to all who made this experience possible!

Today on the 17th anniversary of Moira L Jones’s leadership we’d like to take this time to note her for all that she does every day and all that she has been doing for the past 17 years.

You create the space for us to be able to care for our communities daily and always strive to continue the work of making a difference!

2022 is no exception as Wola Nani moves into this year of continued growth and dedication to our mission.

Dear Arch and Wola Nani Patron

You supported our work in HIV when many were silent on the issues. We mourn the loss of the awesome you, and regret that you won't be teaching us new lessons. But we have the richness of all the work you leave behind and all the lessons and warnings you gave us. If we care to recall we will have enough for every day. Thank you - you have fought the good fight and can now rest. We honour you with love and great respect.

Last month the first group of our counsellors came back from a 5 day Educo Africa Care for Frontline Workers course high up in the mountains of Groot Winterhoek!

During the 5 days, Educo Africa's facilitators held a space for our counsellors to unpack the impact of Covid-19 on themselves, their home and their work environments. The women took the necessary time out to unload and reload for the journey ahead in these uncertain times.

Together Wola Nani and Educo Africa recognise that our counsellors have borne the brunt of exposure to Covid-19 through personal illness and illness and loss of loved ones. In this time of fear and grief where we are tasked with adapting to the constantly changing ‘new norm’, our counsellors have consistently stepped up to the frontline, each day navigating public transport and the public health facilities throughout the pandemic. Daily they are showing up and providing care and services in the clinics, hospitals and their own communities.

This much needed time in the mountains asked our counsellors to pause and breathe, to reflect on the impact the past 20 months have had on themselves and their work and to develop the tools to cope with stress as the journey continues.

Take a peek at some of the moments from camp. But be sure to keep an eye out, because soon we will be sharing an in-depth short film documenting the entire experience!
