A Feel-good Inspiring story out of Uganda, well done to The BIG FIX Uganda for the life changing work you do.

During the war, Lily was abducted and subjected to years of physical torture and her husband was murdered by the rebel army. She survived, but the scars of severe PTSD remained, making daily life a struggle.

In 2016, she found hope through our Comfort Dog Project. She was paired with Openy, a name that means "to ask God and rely on Him for your needs." Openy became more than a dog; he became her anchor. Through their bond, Lily’s PTSD symptoms began to fade. The healing was real, profound, and life-changing.

Lily says "Openy has taught me to become a calm person. He keeps me safe."

Today, Lily isn’t just a survivor—she’s a leader. She now serves as a Field Educator at our mobile clinics, traveling across communities to teach thousands of dog guardians about humane care, responsible guardianship, and the deep connection between humans and animals.

Her journey proves that healing is possible—and that sometimes, the path to recovery begins with a four-legged friend. 🐾✨

Meet Maria Makhaya, a young South African whose journey shows how education can change lives.

Maria started out as an Education Assistant through the JumpStart Foundation, helping maths teachers and learners in the classroom. With hard work and guidance, she’s now a Project Administrator at JumpStart, supporting other young people to follow in her footsteps.

Next year, Maria hopes to study nursing, blending her love for learning, care, and community. Her story proves what’s possible when young people are given a real chance to grow, and when organisations like JumpStart invest in their potential. 🌱
