📚❤️ A healthy start includes a love of reading!

Keenon Mann, Program Manager, and Alyssa Brunstein, Program Director, shared how Reach Out and Read New Jersey & Delaware helps young children and families build stronger bonds through books.

In Delaware alone, the program reaches families during more than 50,000 pediatric checkups annually at 36 clinics, providing books and encouraging parents to read with their children from birth.

Nationally, Reach Out and Read serves 4.8 million children and distributes 9 million books annually! A simple book can make a lifelong difference! 📖

Last week, John Wellons, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, shared how the organization serves more than 20,000 young people each year through 42 locations statewide.

Programs range from academic support and literacy to workforce development, athletics and emotional wellness. One standout number: every $1 invested in Delaware's Clubs, generates an estimated $13.91 in economic benefits to the state.

Two great programs over the past two weeks, with two very different topics and plenty to think about!

Last week, Tracy Bhalla, author of The Everyday Mindfulness Guide, shared “Mindfulness for Busy Minds,” giving members practical ways to slow down, focus, and be more present. One of her reminders was simple but powerful: “The quality of your attention shapes the quality of your life.”

This week, Mark Clark, Rotary District 7630 Governor Nominee and a member of Newark Star Rotary Club, shared the history of the Pledge of Allegiance, including Francis Bellamy’s original 1892 wording beginning with “I pledge allegiance to my flag.” Mark showed how the Pledge evolved over time into the version we recite today, including the addition of “under God” in 1954.

Last week, we welcomed Sandra Searle, CFRE, Director of Development for the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware, and she shared how the organization supports individuals with Down syndrome and their families throughout their lives.

In 2025, the organization served 794 families and hosted 76 events across Delaware, including camps, cooking classes, family activities, and social opportunities for teens and adults.

This week, Adam Kramer, Executive Director of The Green Beret Project, shared how the organization is “Building Leaders One Community at a Time.” He was joined by Kaseem Cotton, a former program participant who offered a firsthand perspective on its impact.

Adam explained how the Green Beret Project prepares young people to succeed through five core areas: exercise and nutrition, academics and critical thinking, life skills, earned income, and community service. From fitness and tutoring to financial literacy, job readiness, and giving back, each area helps youth build confidence, resilience, and a path toward independence.

Last week, several of our members and a few guests, helped assemble 200 backpacks for Sunday Breakfast Mission and the children they serve heading back to school!

Mother Nature was on our side this past Monday, July 13th, with beautiful weather (compared to day's predicted scorcher), which provided the perfect ambience for our 3rd Annual Golf Classic, at
Hartefeld National!

In addition to being blessed with sunny skies, we had 116 incredible golfers, several amazing volunteers, numerous caring sponsors, and two wonderful nonprofits (Easterseals Delaware & Maryland's Eastern Shore and Friendship House of Delaware) on-hand to help raise funds and awareness for more than 40 nonprofits that we will be able to help throughout the year. 💙🧡 THANK YOU!
