Our 4th Annual Cumbre de Empoderamiento Estudiantil (Student EmPowerment Summit) powered by our Latinos Unidos initiative brought the FUN, the CULTURE, and the CONNECTIONS to POLYTECH High School.

It was a day filled with informative workshops, powerful performances, inspiring speakers (and lots of dancing). Our students showed up ready to celebrate!

United Way of Delaware Staff and Leadership are mourning the loss of Patricia โ€œPattiโ€ Blevins alongside the greater Delaware community. Senator Blevins is remembered not only as Mayor of Elsmere or the second woman to hold the title of President pro tempore of the Senate from 2013 until 2017, but as a fierce advocate for Delaware residents.

For decades, her work establishing protections for victims of domestic violence and championing policy addressing the mental health and educational needs of children demonstrated her commitment as a true public servant for those who need it most. UWDE honors her legacy as Executive Director of the Delaware Helpline and the Senator Majority Whip when Delaware passed legislation to establish direct community support through the 211 Community Social Services Helpline.

While we are deeply saddened by her passing, Senator Blevinโ€™s spirit of compassion and leadership is woven in the fabric of Delaware and will continue to be reflected through the work of UWDE.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Blevins during this difficult time and are forever grateful for her tireless commitment to improving the lives of Delawareans.

Get Delaware Reading has been recognized by the Library of Congress as a 2026 Successful Practices honoree, one of just 12 organizations selected for this honor.

This recognition celebrates what Delaware can accomplish when schools, community organizations, educators, families, funders, and partners come together around one goal: helping children become stronger, more confident readers.

This honor belongs to the entire Delaware community and most importantly, to the children at the heart of the work!

This National Literacy Month, letโ€™s remember to keep reading at the forefront all year long. Early literacy builds the foundation for future success and helps children become confident readers and lifelong learners.

At Joseph E. Johnson, Jr. School in Red Clay Schools, students picked out free books to take home through the My Very Own Library program. By giving students the power to choose books theyโ€™re excited to read, weโ€™re helping spark a lifelong love of literacy and learning.

Through My Very Own Library, thousands of students across Delaware are building personal home libraries and strengthening their reading skills one book at a time.
