Marketing is everywhere, from the coffee you buy to the career you’re building.

On this episode of Practice to Profession, Dustin Ramstow talks with Ashik Shafi, GBC marketing faculty member, about the real-world role marketing plays in almost every industry. They discuss why Delaware’s location creates meaningful opportunities for students, how small classes help faculty get to know students personally, and why staying current matters in a field that changes quickly.

Ashik also shares a piece of advice for students that applies far beyond the classroom: believe in yourself, try new things, and let each experience help you better understand where you want to go next. ⚡💙

Congratulations to Giuliana Jaku, ’26 BSBA with a Concentration in Marketing Management, on graduating from Goldey-Beacom College. ⚡💙

Giuliana’s journey brought her from northern Italy, near Venice, to GBC, where she continued her education and her volleyball career as part of the Lightning family.

Along the way, she faced injury, uncertainty, and the challenge of being far from home. But at GBC, Giuliana found teammates, mentors, friends, and a community that believed in her from the start.

As she shared, “Goldey gave me a 2nd opportunity. They believed in me since the 1st day.”

We’re proud to celebrate Giuliana and this exciting next chapter. Read her full story on our website: https://www.gbc.edu/about/news/from-northern-italy-to-the-lightning-family-giuliana-jaku/

Some people see a place. Emily Bonavita sees the story inside it.

A recent Goldey-Beacom College graduate in Communication and Media Studies, Emily uses photography to capture the fleeting details that often go unnoticed: quiet moments between people, the glow of a landscape, and the feeling of being somewhere before it becomes a memory.

Her creative work has been shaped by travel, observation, and connection, from exploring Greece, Ireland, and Scotland to building relationships on campus as a transfer and commuter student. Emily shared that getting involved made a meaningful difference in her GBC experience, even when she was only on campus once or twice a week.

Now, she is taking a gap year to focus on her work, gain hands-on filming experience, and keep building toward a future in visual storytelling, especially in cinematography or the art department in film.

Congratulations, Emily. We’re proud to have you as part of the GBC alumni community, and we can’t wait to see the stories you tell next. ⚡💙
