The complex and fascinating lives of leafcutter ants can leave you watching them work for hours! These incredible insects can lift up to 50 times their own body weight and cut and carry leaves not to eat, but to grow fungus, which they use to feed the larvae within the colony. With specialized castes for cutting, defending, and raising young, leafcutter ants are stronger and smarter than they look.

Visit app.zoolife.tv/h/butterfly-pavilion/leafcutter-ants zoolife to watch them live and in action anytime, anywhere!

Yesterday, Butterfly Pavilion, alongside Northwest Parkway, completed the first survey for our upcoming pollinator corridor! During the visit, we assessed the pollinator species currently present and evaluated habitat conditions, data that will help inform future seeding, landscaping, and maintenance as we begin creating pollinator-friendly habitat to support native invertebrates.

This project stems from VINCI Highways’ commitment to sustainable stewardship. Pollinators are experiencing population declines globally due to habitat loss, toxins, parasites, and disease. Next steps for the project include additional data collection, landscaping and planting, and staff training to support the long-term maintenance of the corridor.

Stay tuned and follow along as we continue this project!

If you visit Butterfly Pavilion and find yourself wondering what those colorful balls are in our shrimp habitats, they’re not just there for show, they’re part of our animals’ enrichment!

We recently added Kong feeders to our sexy shrimp and cleaner shrimp habitats, which we fill with food to give our animals fun and stimulating ways to explore and interact with their environments. These feeders offer a fresh new challenge for the shrimp and encourage the natural foraging behaviors they would use in the wild.

Toys aren’t just for dogs and kids, as you can see our invertebrates like them too! Visit butterflies.org to visit today.
