Hee-Haw Halfway House's Mission: to rescue, rehab, retrain and rehome donkeys in Northern Colorado.

It's been soggy up in Washington but Patty and Remy are doing great in their new home!

You got to be really careful around donkeys, sometimes if you spend too much time with them, you turn into one! 🤣

Happy National Mule Day to all of the mule lovers out there!

Mules are the offspring (usually sterile) of a donkey Jack and a horse mare. The opposite, a donkey jennet matched with a horse stallion, is called a hinny. Hinnies are often so similar to mules that it is very hard to know the difference, while some look more pony-like than a regular mule.

The only way to really know for sure is to know the parentage entirely. Around here, people often guess one way or the other with the half asses we get in to the rescue. But since they aren't telling who their parents are, it's definitely hard to know!

Either way, we love our mules, hinnies, and donkeys around here.

Have a wonderful mule day!

A very full weekend of good people, good animals, a tarantula and a very big snake, delicious food and a homemade cake, and a small surprise party!

This last month has been full of extreme and harsh losses and grief, and a happy birthday wasn't really expected at this point, but Randy, Lara, Grace, April, Aria, Northmen Exotics , and all of my co-workers and friends made it a good 40th birthday, despite how hard life currently is.

I can only be amazed at how loving my entire community is- how kind and loving. I appreciate everyone who says kind words, messaged me, and who spent time with me this weekend.

It means the world to me. ❤️

Love,
Rachel

We were honored to be involved in the first edition of the Saddle Donkey Magazine!

Thank you Tricia for asking us to be a part of this amazing (and big) undertaking. Not only that, but our CEO Rachel Ann and her mammoth donkey Atlass are on the cover!!

Deeply sad news today- today we laid to rest our beloved farm dog Red Dog.

He had a fast growing brain tumor and things were progressing quickly and he was declining visibly by the day.

Quality of life over quantity is always the goal.

Red Dog was a great farm protector and alert dog, as well as being comedic relief, a shoulder to cry on, and a favorite hiking and adventure buddy.

Rest easy, you were a GOOD dog.

HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!

We are blown away by the support of our 2026 Hee-Haw Online Auction Sponsors- due to your support, we were able to raise nearly $3000 towards care of donkeys- and mules in need at Hee - Haw Halfway House Donkey Rescue and Education Nonprofit 501c3.

We also had several private donations during the event which raised our funding to $20 short of 3k. That's 6 TIMES what we've made before in this fundraising event annually.

We are beyond grateful for the support and kindness of our community, both local and nationally.

Humphrey: "I can see you are mucking but could I possibly interest you in some...Humphrey?!"
Yes, why yes you can!

We will be doing a separate post to honor our gracious donors but for tonight: a huge thank you to both our donors and our bidders for contributing to making our third annual auction fundraiser a success!

We raised 5.5 TIMES what we have in the past! This will go directly towards donkey and mule care this winter.

We are beyond impressed and grateful to Lara for being an amazing Fundraising Coordinator for this event and to Trina for her time in setup and distribution of donor items. Due to them, this was an incredible year.

Thank you!
