RJT Hope for Hooves

RJT Hope for Hooves Our goal is to save horses from abuse, neglect and to prevent horses from making it into the slaughter pipeline.

Then when possible to find them suitable adoptive homes, and when not possible to offer lifelong sanctuary.

We took RJT Skippy(mule)
And RJT Willow for a short ride/walk last week. Skippy is finishing up his evaluation and will be up for adoption soon. This handsome mule has really been a treat to work with. He isn't fancy, but seems to have a good attitude. Stay tuned for more info on this guy soon! Willow will be turning 2 next month, and we thought this was a good opportunity to give her some experiences out in the world. Where we very much stand by waiting for a horse to mature before training, we also believe anything we can do in the meantime to make that transition easier is not only beneficial for their future trainer, but also enriching for our young horses. Willow was absolutely amazing you would have thought she was a seasoned pack horse. We were able to give her experiences with cattle, water crossings, playing in the lake, and bicyclists all in a short hr. She handled it all like a pro! The icing on the cake for her was some good mountain grass hand grazing before loading up!

RJT Winston and RJT Arnold headed off to training on Sunday. These two handsome geldings were both born here at the rescue 5 short years ago. We usually start saddle training when our youngsters turn 4, but we decided to wait another year as we noted Arnold looked like he had a little sway in his spine. Given a little more time to mature he is good to go now. We are so excited for this next part of their growth. They will be in training for the next 90 days, and hopefully after that we will be able to start looking for their forever homes.

RJT Banjo is up for adoption.....again. This lovely boy has been returned twice through no fault of his own, sadly both of his previous adopters went through unforseen life changes. Due to this we are going to be very picky about where he goes next. Banjo is a 17yr old Andalusian cross gelding standing at 15.2 hands. He is looking for a calm intermediate rider as he can sometimes be reactive. He is very sweet but can be shy, and needs someone willing to take the time to get to know him. Once you do he is an awesome guy with lots character! Please contact us for more info if interested!

RJT Whiskey is officially up for adoption. Whiskey is 15.3 hand draft cross gelding, between 17 and 20yrs. He has a dental condition called EORTH which causes deterioration of the teeth which has made it difficult to age him. This requires minimal maintenance currently, which includes yearly dental checks, and a pelleted senior feed. Whiskey is an absolute doll, and thrives on attention from his people. Whiskey is looking for an advanced beginner rider who is looking for a relaxing ride. Whiskey prefers a slower pace to life, and would work best with someone who wants to walk/ trot. If this might be you please contact us with any questions!!

Friday was a rough day for us here at the rescue. We had to say goodbye to our senior big guy Moonshadow. This gentle giant came to us underweight with a very weak hind end. We struggled to get weight back on him, but he finally filled out and we thought he would blossom from there, but saddly he started to struggle to get up from laying down everyday more and more. This was not something that was going to be fixed in a senior draft horse, and quality of life is something we stand by so with heavy hearts we decided the best thing was to let him go. Even though he was only with us a short time he will be greatly missed.

Saddly on Wednesday we found this mama and baby pair at our local livestock auction, starved and unhandled, and knew we had to step up. Unfortunately they came from out of state and needed a coggins test and were not allowed to leave auction until the test came back, so yesterday we were able to go pick them up and take them to our amazing friend, and qt partner Rachel Renee . Rachel is well versed in re feeding protocols so we know these two will get the best care during their quarantine time. While we are frustrated that these two were put in this position we are so hopeful for an amazing future for them. Welcome Birch(Mama) and Oakley (filly)!!!
