Dolly Parton knew what it was like to struggle as she fought for working families her whole career. From providing free books to kids to giving working women our "9 to 5" anthem, she was an icon and an inspiration.

Rest in power to our union sister. We will always love you.

RVDSA member Bob Williams has been working at Holyoke Public Schools’s Holyoke High School North in the History department for 3 years. He brought his commitment to rank-and-file power building immediately into the Holyoke Teachers Association and was an integral driver of the reinvigoration of that union during those 3 years.

Bob fought for resources from Massachusetts Teachers Association, identified and encouraged new member-leaders, demanded an election that resulted in a slate of new elected leaders and a new direction for Holyoke Teachers Association, coordinated and attended trainings, served as building rep (steward) in HHS North, pushed the creation of Building Action Teams during the bargaining campaign and served as a BAT member, and was recently elected to the MTA board of directors representing Holyoke and Chicopee. Bob also worked with 2 school committee members last fall to help them get elected. He has been a visible and active participant in union business since day 1.

Bob’s teaching evaluations are all proficient and there is no professional reason to separate him from the district. He has also written and updated HHS History curricula.

If Holyoke Public schools can get away with this type of retaliation for union work, they will prove that organizing is unsafe and we all know that strong unions make strong schools.
