Celebration, Reflection, ACTION. We remain committed celebrating our diverse community. We remain committed to telling complicated historical truths. We recommit ourselves to challenging historical systems of oppression in every form.

After tonight's school committee meeting, the WEA is heartened and inspired by the significant civic engagement from a vast coalition of Wellesley stakeholders. Hearing from parents and local organizers about the need for compassionate, effective, and responsible leadership in our schools is shared by WPS's educators and families alike: whether the concerns focus on the health and safety of our students and staff or maintaining and improving on Wellesley's already excellent performance.

After thorough discussion about important leadership concerns, the school committee has voted to enter negotiations to extend Dr. Lussier's contract.

We encourage the community to continue to be engaged and contact school committee members to provide undeniable clarity about the needs and values of the Wellesley Public Schools

Much like the a committee approved a motion to change a market adjustment for management to a stipend in order to be more aligned with community values, we hope that they will examine the needs for leadership in the Wellesley Public Schools with equal scrutiny as they enter these negotiations.

Take Action Now ‼️ Nearly three years ago, WEA membership voted 94% “No Confidence” in the leadership of the Wellesley Public Schools under Dr. David Lussier. Little has changed, despite all of our best efforts to move forward together. Now, as School Committee considers 4 more years, we must ask ourselves the question- what could we achieve with new leadership? Tell School Committee NOW.

📢👂 📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE ON RETIREMENTPLUS: We have learned that RetirementPlus will be taken up as a stand-alone bill very soon! We obtained this information through positive discussions and public comments made by several senators, including State Senator Liz Miranda, D-Second Suffolk, who announced: “that there is a clear path to taking up RetirementPlus legislation very soon.”

📰 This is significant news! We thank all MTA members who helped move this issue forward. Without your grassroots advocacy, this progress would not have been possible. We ask that you continue working on this issue and urge your state senator to support a Fair Fix for RetirementPlus.

👏We also give special thanks to State Senator Liz Miranda, whose determination and unwavering advocacy have been invaluable.
