Wishing our community a happy Mother’s Day! This is what a card would have looked like in 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson officially declared Mother’s Day a national holiday in the United States.

This is the kind of conversation most communities avoid.

We didn’t.

At WOW’s Community Book Read, we asked hard questions about identity, belonging, and what it means to be seen in America—through Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen.

And people showed up. Sat with it. Stayed in it.

Watch this moment.
Then tell us what you think.

What does it mean to be “American” not in theory, but in the lives of people around us, right here in our community?

Join World of Wellesley for our 2026 Community Book Read featuring Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizenby Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and immigration advocate Jose Antonio Vargas, who will be part of the evening’s conversation.

This is not a lecture and you don’t need to have read the book.

This is a chance to come together as a community and explore questions many of us don’t often have space to ask:
What does belonging actually look like?
Who feels seen and who doesn’t in places like ours?
How do national issues quietly shape our schools, workplaces, and daily lives?

Whether you’re deeply familiar with these topics or just beginning to think about them, you are welcome here.

People across Wellesley are already planning to attend: neighbors, parents, students, and community members, because these conversations feel more important than ever.

📍 Wellesley Free Library or via Zoom
📅 Thursday, March 26 | 6:30–9:00 PM

Books available with a $15 donation.

Bring a friend, a neighbor, or someone you don’t always agree with.
These are the conversations that help a community grow—together.

Registration is FREE but space is limited— register now today!

Please attend this FREE event WITH Pulitzer Prize winner Jose Vargas! "Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen". Jose Antonio Vargas takes audiences deeper into his story, sharing details of his journey to America from the Philippines as a child; his journey through America as an immigration reform activist; and his journey inward as he re-connects with his mother, whom he hadn't seen in person in over 20 years.

Dear community,

World of Wellesley is looking for a community-minded volunteer to help amplify our work and deepen our impact, and we wanted to reach out here first.

We’re hoping to find someone who loves storytelling, organizing information, connecting people, and someone who understands social media. This role would help shape our communications strategy and support the day-to-day sharing of events, updates, and opportunities with the community. It’s a wonderful fit for someone who has a few flexible hours each week and wants to make a meaningful impact close to home. A way to have a purposeful way to stay engaged.

You don’t need to be a communications professional. If you’re organized, enthusiastic, collaborative, and excited about strengthening community connections, we’d love to talk with you.

If this sounds like something you might enjoy (or you know someone who’d be great), please reply to this email. We’ll follow up with next steps and more details.

World of Wellesley’s work depends on people who care about our community, and we’d be thrilled to welcome another passionate voice to our team. The time commitment is approximately 2.5 hours/ week.

Thank you for considering it! Please contact us at [email protected]

Warmly,
World of Wellesley Board
