We have a sweet story that we know can't just stay between us.

Our Community Support Team had just received a monetary donation specifically to purchase school items for families. Shortly after, a family with a sibling set of four mentioned needing school uniforms for the upcoming school year. Our Community Support Staff reached out to the family, marked the sizes needed, and went shopping on Amazon - with the total coming to just $3.16 over the given amount! Before using her business card, she checked the balance just to be sure she had enough to complete the order. When she saw the balance, she had $3.19 on her card, $0.03 over what was needed! God knew. It was sweet He knew the need even before we did.

By that evening, some of the items had already been delivered and one of the girls tried on her new uniform, twirling around the house, excited for the new school year. Thankful that through the generosity of the donation from Lakewood Church, a couple of our kids received not just some new clothes for school, but the excitement and confidence for the new year!

We love to be able to offer exciting experiences for our families - like pre-season tickets to the Houston Texans game! Thank you Richard Vera for generously offering your season tickets to a Sanctuary family, not only once, but two weeks in a row! It allowed for both a fun father - son night out to his first pro football game, and then a chance for one of our families to get away for a date night!

Last summer, HighPoint Church hosted a pool party for our families and it wasn't long after that in which they came back to us to say they definitely wanted to do something again! This summer, with the excruciating heat, we headed inside and our kids and families got to have an epic party with a balloon drop, bubbles, and a glow party at Pump It Up. Pizza was served, socks were worn, and the jumping was endless (Well, at least for two hours).

We are grateful when partners wrap around us and know the value in providing experiences like these for our families to have community and fun!

Thank you HighPoint Church for caring for our families and loving on our kiddos!

Friday way FLY day! We headed out to iFly with some of our kiddos and their families where they were able to experience indoor skydiving, along with a full immersive STEM experience. The kids learned about gravity, wind tunnels, and how they use weight and force to keep the flyers in the air at the right height! After their own flights, they witnesses the difference in which objects react to the winds - they even got to watch water dance! This was such a creative and exciting way to provide child and family enrichment opportunities.

A thank you to the wonderful staff at iFly - Memorial for going above and beyond for our families, and to CMG Home Loans, who with their generous support, we are able to meet tangible needs for families but also provide unique experiences like this!

Sleep impairment for foster children is a serious problem and can often be overlooked regarding its physical, emotional and mental impact on the child. When our kids can sleep, it's a BIG DEAL.

"These (sleep) issues are highly relevant to foster children, most of whom have experienced multiple stressors (e.g., parental substance abuse, parental imprisonment, and parental mental health problems) prior to entering out-of-home care. In addition, apart from children placed in foster care at birth, many foster children have experienced some type of maltreatment. Finally, the caregiver transitions that occur among foster children may be additionally stressful. Prior researchers have suggested that exposure to such acute or chronic stressors cause marked impairment of sleep and interference with sleep architecture in children, thereby suggesting that sleep problems may be more likely in foster children.

For young children, it is normative to perceive night as a fearful time and to request “curtain calls” after the lights are out to provide soothing gestures and to address fears. Foster children may experience bedtime differently because they may not view foster caregivers as sources of regulation of normative fears due to compromised attachment relationships. Furthermore, nighttime and darkness may be directly associated with experiences of abuse, thus further increasing anxiety around bedtime."
