Lunar Rendezvous Festival

A nonprofit organization that raises funds for need-based scholarships and other local nonprofits.

The Lunar Rendezvous Festival is one of the Houston Bay Area's oldest and largest charity organizations. Founded in 1965 to honor the community's contributions to the history of space exploration, Lunar Rendezvous has allowed generations of Houston Bay Area residents the opportunity to give back by supporting dozens of worthy 501(c)(3) local charities, as well as awarding over 1 million dollars in need-based college scholarships in the past ten years alone. Lunar Rendezvous prides itself as a service-oriented organization, with a focus on teaching tomorrow's leaders the importance of volunteerism.

The small hands of the 2026 Lunar Rendezvous Festival Little Court made a big difference this summer at Exploration Green with their Pollinator Conservation Project. Together they planted and watered 24 native pollinator plants to help local pollinators survive. The Little Court also made seed balls from dirt, water, and seeds. Once dried and tossed in the garden, more flowers can grow. They also presented a donation to the Exploration Green Conservatory.

🌙 BEYOND THE FESTIVAL | GRANTS IN ACTION

🩰 Bringing the Magic of Ballet to Young Audiences!

For 36 years, Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre (BAHBT) has introduced local students to The Nutcracker through school performances at UHCL. Its Ballet in the Schools program also brings live performances directly into area schools.

In April 2026, Lunar Rendezvous Festival awarded BAHBT a $10,000 grant from funds raised during our 2025 Festival season.

This investment is helping expand access to these experiences, particularly for students attending Title I schools. By removing financial barriers, more children have opportunities to experience live ballet, explore the performing arts, and discover new creative interests.

This is what Grants in Action looks like! Investing in programs. Expanding opportunities. Creating lasting impact.

We're proud to support organizations like BAHBT and grateful to Festival donors like Prestige Oysters, Inc. and Gay Family Auto, whose generosity helps turn a season of community celebration into year-round impact.

The events may end. The impact doesn't.

🌙 BEYOND THE FESTIVAL | SCHOLAR STORIES

Meet Joudy, a University of Houston student and one of the students whose future has been supported by a Lunar Rendezvous Festival scholarship. 🎓

Through an independent mentorship experience in healthcare, Joudy learned a lesson that is shaping not only her education, but the kind of physician she hopes to become: patients are people first.

While she may not yet be able to treat patients herself, Joudy discovered that taking a few extra minutes to talk, listen, and connect could make a meaningful difference in someone’s day.

In her own words:
💙 “I will become a doctor who feels for all her patients, who focuses on their overall well-being, whether it’s physical or emotional. My goal is to send my patients out with not just a healed body, but a healed heart and soul.”

Joudy’s story reminds us that investing in education is also investing in the people who will one day serve and care for others in our community and beyond.

We are grateful to our Festival Donors and community partners, including Dr. and Mrs. Charles Schuhmacher and Tieken Smiles Dentistry, whose generosity helps make investments in students like Joudy possible. 💙

One scholarship. One student. A future full of possibility.

🌙 BEYOND THE FESTIVAL | OUR IMPACT
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

When our community comes together for the Lunar Rendezvous Festival, the impact reaches far beyond the events themselves.

Support generated through Festival events, Festival Donors, and community giving helps fund two important parts of our year-round mission.

🎓 Scholarships that open doors to higher education for local students.
💙 Grants to local nonprofit organizations supporting education, youth development, and the arts.

And from there, the impact keeps growing.

A scholarship can help a student take the next step toward a dream. A grant can strengthen a program, create new opportunities, or help a local organization reach more people.

Festival support becomes community impact.

We are grateful for Festival Donors like The Amis Family Fund of Triangle Community Foundation, whose generosity helps make this impact possible.

The events may end. The impact doesn’t.

🌙 BEYOND THE FESTIVAL | COURT IN THE COMMUNITY

Lunar Rendezvous Festival Court members are tasked with giving back to their local community through service projects, both individually and as a group. This year, Sunday, June 14, marked the first-ever Lunar Giveback Day. The 2026 Court volunteered at NASA Area Little League, helping close down all the fields after the spring season. This involved hours of hot, sweaty work, including cleaning out the score boxes and concession stands, tidying the fields, taking out the trash, and much more.

Building leaders. Inspiring service. Strengthening our community.

🌙 BEYOND THE FESTIVAL | GRANTS IN ACTION

$4,000. 60 children. Opportunities that reach far beyond the school day.

In early 2026, Lunar Rendezvous Festival awarded a $4,000 youth and education grant to the Perry Family YMCA, helping provide financial assistance for 60 of the 196 children participating in its After-School Program.

For families who might otherwise be unable to access safe, high-quality care, that support can mean so much more.

One parent shared about the YMCA:

“Their immense financial help for the after-school program helped us grow, allowing me to obtain a job and economic stability. Without this support, we would not have achieved it.”

In July, we visited the Perry Family YMCA and saw its STEAM and coding programs in action.

These hands-on learning opportunities help keep children engaged throughout the summer, reduce summer learning loss, and foster creativity, curiosity, and confidence.

Just as importantly, YMCA programs provide a safe, welcoming place where children can build friendships, develop important social and emotional skills, and create lasting memories.

This is what Grants in Action looks like. Investing in programs. Expanding opportunities. Creating lasting impact.

A community that continues to invest in the Festival and its mission makes it possible. We are grateful to Festival donors like DeAnn Kelley, whose support helps us extend the impact of Lunar Rendezvous far beyond Festival season.

The events may end. The impact doesn’t.
