BAHEP hosted city managers from across the region today for monthly Houston-Galveston City Managers Luncheon, bringing local government leaders together to talk through the issues shaping the region.

President Brian Freedman welcomed the group, and Bennett Sandlin, former Executive Director of the Texas Municipal League and now an independent attorney and training provider for Texas cities, delivered a legislative and policy update on what's ahead for municipalities this year.

Thank you to Municipal Parking Services for sponsoring lunch, Jay Stokes with the City of Deer Park who chairs the group, and to the city managers who joined us. Regional collaboration starts with conversations like this one.

BAHEP had the opportunity to attend the FANUC America Corporation facility tour and technology showcase last week.

The event provided an excellent look at FANUC's robotics, automation, AI, and advanced manufacturing technologies, along with valuable insights into how these solutions are helping manufacturers improve efficiency and address workforce challenges.

BAHEP was honored to attend the ribbon cutting for Earthrise, a new public art installation at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal School of Nassau Bay on Sunday.

The installation celebrates diverse pioneers who helped shape human spaceflight, with a special focus on Major General Charles Bolden (Ret.), former NASA Administrator and longtime parish leader at St. Thomas along with Ed Dwight, Robert Henry Lawrence Jr., George Robert Carruthers, Ruth Bates Harris, NASA Astronaut Group 8, Dr. Bernard Harris Jr., and Sunita Williams. We were glad to see a strong turnout from the Houston space community and leaders including Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia and the Rt. Rev. Andy Doyle, Episcopal Bishop of Texas.

Thank you to Rev. Mike Stone, Brian Breen, and the St. Thomas community for the invitation and for bringing this project to life. It's a fitting tribute to the City of Nassau Bay, Texas' place in our region's space legacy.

BAHEP was honored to attend a Vision Briefing at Space Center Houston this week, joining distinguished leaders including NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson and others from across the region for a look at the facility's master plan and growth strategy. Space Center Houston laid out how it is meeting a period of tremendous growth, with expansion plans that will carry that momentum into the future.

A particular highlight was the impact Space Center Houston has on students, especially through the caliber of STEM programs and creative programs the team is using to inspire the next generation. The briefing took place in the new education building, complete with mock-ups and lab space designed to further expand these programs.

Congratulations to William Harris and the entire Space Center Houston team on this vision for the future. Except great things on the horizon from our friends at Space Center Houston!

BAHEP Board Chair Nellie Chappell-White with JES Tech and BAHEP President Brian Freedman hosted Texas General Land Office Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. at the BAHEP office last week.

The meeting focused on regional opportunities and growth, support for Bay Area Houston's coastal barrier protection efforts, along with planning ahead of the upcoming legislative session.

It was an honor to host Commissioner Buckingham, and BAHEP appreciates her continued leadership on coastal protection for the State of Texas.
