On August 19, The Longhorn Project at Johnson Space Center will officially come to a close.

Founded in 1999 by JSC Director George W.S. Abbey as a Center for Agriculture, Science, and Engineering. The Longhorn Project has inspired and impacted more than 100,000 students, educators, visitors, and community members through its educational programs and outreach efforts over nearly three decades.

As Chairman of the Board, Andrea Wilson reflects, "The Longhorn Project has been more than a program. It has been a place where curiosity, learning, and opportunity came together to inspire generations. Its impact will continue to be felt long after the trail ends."

Thank you to everyone who helped make The Longhorn Project a lasting success and an important part of JSC's legacy. Stay tuned for more updates.

Henry and I attended the celebration of life for John Randolph, and it was a beautiful tribute to a truly remarkable man.

John and Christie Randolph, owners of Lonesome Pines Ranch, in Smithville, TX, gave so much to The Longhorn Project at Johnson Space Center and impacted countless youth through their generosity.

Because of the outstanding Longhorns (Kettle’s Chocolate Chip, Aw-Chi-Wawa, Minnie Pearl, Miss Dolly Not Pardon, Jolene, & many more) they provided, our show team youth, earned numerous awards, buckles, and TLBAA Hall of Fame points while learning valuable lessons along the way.

Beyond the program, one of our greatest blessings was the special friendship Henry and I built with them and their family, especially their grandson, Dylan. They will always hold a special place in our hearts.

It was truly an honor to represent Lonesome Pines Ranch. John's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed. ❤️

We want to thank all of our friends who reached out to check on us and our Longhorn steer, CVL JSC “George” Abbey.Unfortunately, I never got the names of the two men who stopped to help Henry and me, but we will be forever grateful for their kindness and assistance. We were on our way to the TLBAA World Expo in Abilene, Texas, when the back door of our trailer unexpectedly came open. While it was initially a concerning situation, it was actually a quite controlled, and thankfully George and all remained safe. True to form, George made history once again just two days later when he was named Reserve Grand Champion Trophy Steer at the World Expo. George is 10.7 years old with an impressive 105-inch horn span (as of May 2026) weighing about 2000 lbs., making this achievement even more remarkable. We are incredibly thankful for everyone's concern, support, prayers, and encouragement. Most of all, we are grateful that this story had a happy ending. George is being offered for sale for $15,000. 2026 TLBAA World Expo Reserve Grand Champion Trophy Steer and Senior Champion CVL JSC George Abbey! 

’George’ was named after the founder of The Longhorn Project and former director of the NASA Johnson Space Center, George WS Abbey. George, 10 years old, has been raised and cared for by The Longhorn Project at Johnson Space Center since he was 6 months old. 

Originally owned by CVL Clinard Ranch, and then purchased by Greg Rincon. George holds multi grand and reserve champion titles. 

Henry Wilson & Andrea Giamfortone Wilson would like to thank Whitney & Waverly for taking care of George at the show thus weekend.

Getting show-day ready! The Abilene Reporter-News caught LHP Show Team member Whitney McCauley and Buckaroo Iron’s Hercules, owned by Jim & Pia Eyman, heading to the wash before Friday’s Trophy Steer Show at the TLBAA World Expo at the Taylor County Expo. 🐂✨
