Join CAHS for Two Special Events with the Cornish Pirates!

We are delighted to share two upcoming opportunities for our Cornish American Heritage Society members to connect with the Cornish Pirates, the professional rugby club based in Penzance, Cornwall!

These events offer a fantastic opportunity to support one of Cornwall’s best-known sporting organizations, learn more about the club, and strengthen the connections between Cornish people on both sides of the Atlantic.

🏉 Event 1: Watch the Cornish Pirates Take on Richmond RFC
Live from the Mennaye Field in Penzance.

Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026

Time: Pre match Zoom discussion at 9:30 am Eastern; the game kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time

Where: Online via https://www.clubbertv.co.uk/ and concurrently on a Zoom call for team chat.

Join fellow CAHS members to watch the Pirates take on Richmond in a home match. Our host, super-fan Treive Nicholas from the Cornish Pirates Supporters’ Forum, will guide us through the experience, and we’re hoping to have a pre-match video from one of the team’s coaches to help explain what to expect.

Fun Facts!

Rugby matches consist of two 40-minute halves, plus injury time, with a 15-minute halftime break. And to go forwards you have to pass backwards!

Whether you’re a longtime rugby fan or new to the sport, this is a great opportunity to experience a little more of Cornwall’s sporting culture together.

It is Fall and so that means one thing Rugby season is well underway back in Cornwall!

In Cornwall rugby is far more than a weekend game it's widely considered the County sport and a bedrock of cultural identity. Despite a population under 600,000, Cornwall boasts 37 affiliated clubs led by the professional Cornish Pirates, a passionate grassroots network, and legendary representative teams.

Nothing proves this devotion like the iconic 1991 County Championship Final, when over 40,000 Cornish fans which was roughly 10% of Cornwall’s entire population travelled in convoys of buses to Twickenham Stadium The legendary Trelawny's Army cheered the team to a historic 29–20 extra-time victory over Yorkshire and it remains the largest single gathering of Cornish people in modern history!

This passion connects directly to the historical routes carved out by our ancestors. Wherever they settled in North America, they brought their grit and athletic spirit. Today, that legacy lives on in our historic Cornish settlement hubs

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula: Copper Country RFC (Houghton) & NMU Moosemen (Marquette).

Wisconsin: Madison United Rugby & UW Men's Rugby serving the Mineral Point region.

Northern California clubs like Sacramento Rugby Club and Sierra College Rugby near historic Grass Valley.

Montana: Montana Youth Rugby Union / Butte local sides & Missoula Maggots RFC.

Pennsylvania: Harrisburg RFC & Blackthorn Rugby Club.

While rooted in deep history, the bond between Cornish and American rugby is forging an exciting path forward:

Join us and Mary Sisson for a zoom event to learn about how she used the Travel Grant to explore her roots back in Cornwall. She will be sharing stories and experiences of her multi-generational family journey to the Duchy.

From the seaside town of Newquay she traced her family heritage all across Cornwall.

This gathering we learned a lot about the fact that our Cornish ancestors didn’t just magically appear at the mines that they were sought after for working the hard rock.

Dr. Sharron Schwartz both presented on “Little Cornwall”, in Mexico, she let us view the directors cut of her film documenting the long journey the Cornish made to get there.

I’m back home, sorting through videos and pictures, reliving the past few days.

It’s always great to see each other in person, and I wish we could do it more often. Reality is, we’re all Cousin Jack (or Jenny) in one way or another.
