👻🎃 Next ADOPTA-BOOs: Ned & Captain 🎃👻

Two of their friends have found their happily ever after. Now, it’s Ned and Captain’s turn. ❤️

Ned and Captain came to CARE with two other birds, Chalupa and Morgan. All four had been treated more like ornaments than the living, feeling little souls they are. They were fed a high-fat diet and weren’t given the chance to experience the kind of life every bird deserves.

Birds aren’t decorations. They aren’t something pretty to look at and leave in a cage. They are intelligent, sensitive creatures with their own personalities, needs, and the ability to form meaningful bonds. They deserve proper nutrition, enrichment, patience, and a family who sees them as so much more than just a bird.

Our hearts are so happy that Chalupa and Morgan have found their PERFECT homes. 🥹💕 They have their second chance, and we couldn't be more grateful. But we still have two little souls waiting for their turn.

Ned and Captain are still waiting for someone to choose them. Someone who will look at them and see family. Someone who will give them the time, care, and love they may have missed out on for far too long. Someone who will show them that their lives matter, too.

They may not understand that their forever homes are out there waiting for them, but we hope those homes find their way to CARE soon. Every bird deserves to be more than an afterthought. Every bird deserves a chance to be loved. ❤️

👻🎃 Our next spooky ADOPTA-BOO is Chicken! 🎃👻

Chicken is an approximately 5-year-old DNA-s*xed male Bare-Eyed Cockatoo who is ready to find his forever home!

Chicken is tame and handleable, and he has been thoroughly vet checked, including bloodwork. But don't let his sweet side fool you! This young man is FULL of himself, and sometimes that confidence turns into aggression and biting.

We're working with Chicken, but he needs someone who understands cockatoos, has plenty of patience, and is willing to work with him as he continues to learn. His ideal home would preferably be one where he is the only bird, allowing him to have the space, attention, and individual guidance he needs to thrive.

Chicken has a lot of personality packed into that feathered body! He needs an experienced person who can look beyond his challenging behaviors, respect his boundaries, and help him become the best bird he can be. ❤️

⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: Applications for cockatoos will not be considered unless the applicant has previous large-bird experience. Large birds are highly intelligent and have specific care and behavioral needs. Applicants must be prepared to detail their personal experience living with and caring for large birds.

🐦 Vet Day for Caesar, Cuddles, Junior and Bubba! 🩺❤️

Just a gentle reminder to check your bird’s carrier before every trip for cleanliness, wear and tear, sharp edges, loose parts, and any damage.

🚨 Not all carriers are bird-safe! A carrier that works well for one bird may not be safe for another. Always consider your bird’s size, strength, chewing habits, and individual needs when choosing a carrier.

🔒 Before leaving, double-check every latch, door, and opening to make sure the carrier is securely closed and locked.

⚠️ SAFETY FIRST: Never assume a carrier is safe just because you’ve used it before! Inspect it every time, ensure your bird cannot squeeze through gaps or escape, and never open the carrier outdoors or in an unsecured area. One moment of carelessness can lead to a lost or seriously injured bird.

💚 Our feathered family members depend on us to keep them safe. A secure, bird-appropriate carrier isn't optional—it's essential. Check it, lock it, and protect your precious passenger every single trip! 🦜

🎃 8 SPECIAL ADOPTA-BOOs. 8 LITTLE LIVES. 8 CHANCES FOR A NEW BEGINNING. 🎃

Back in February, eight cockatiels came to CARE from a hoarding situation. We may never know everything these little birds have been through, but we know they deserve a future filled with love, patience, and a place to call home. ❤️

Since arriving, we’ve been working hard to help them feel safe and learn that humans can be trusted. They’re still learning, and they may not be the cockatiels who immediately hop onto your hand or ask for head scratches, but that doesn’t mean they deserve any less love.

Sometimes, the birds who need us most are the ones who need us to be patient the longest. 💛

We dream of finding families who will see past their fears, celebrate their little victories, and give them the time they need to discover what it means to feel truly safe.

They’ve already been through so much. Now, we want them to know what it feels like to have a family of their own.

😂 Somebody let Toby out, and Toby decided he was going to take a bite out of something he wasn't supposed to… his sound and vocabulary board! 🤦‍♀️🦜

With a vocabulary of over 100 words and sounds, you'd think Toby would have plenty to say about it. Apparently, today he decided to let his beak do the talking! 😂

🎃 SPECIAL ADOPTA-BOO: LACEY! 🦜

Lacey is an approximately 30+ year-old DNA-s*xed female who is very sweet and handleable. She has been thoroughly vet checked, including bloodwork. Lacey does have some physical limitations, so a calm, quiet home that can accommodate her needs would be the perfect fit!

🦜 A little education about African Greys

African Greys can be wonderful, fun, energetic companions. Unfortunately, their beauty and reputation for talking often lead families to bring them home without fully understanding their specific needs.

Some Greys struggle with plucking, biting, or other behavioral challenges, and many eventually find themselves in rescue. By the time they arrive at CARE, some have experienced multiple homes, neglect, or emotional trauma.

Our responsibility is to help these birds find truly forever homes where they can feel safe, thrive, and live happy, healthy lives.

African Greys need more than a cage and the ability to mimic words. They need mental stimulation, foraging opportunities, plenty of out-of-cage playtime, and families who understand their unique personalities. Not every Grey will talk like the birds you see on YouTube, and that's okay! A bird's worth is never measured by how many words they can say. ❤️

Because of their specialized needs, CARE does not accept applications for our African Greys from people who have never owned large birds. Applicants with personal African Grey experience will receive priority.

Want to gain experience with these incredible birds? Volunteering is a great place to start! CARE is always accepting new volunteer applications.
