For those getting ready to send your young people off to college, or other life transition...Remind them of the basics BEFORE they are struggling. Grades are important, but developing resilience and coping skills they can use when they (or we) get overwhelmed is so important (even one of two of these when practiced regularly will have a positive impact):
👉sleep
👉movement and hydration
👉taking any medications as prescribed
👉sunlight/nature
👉focus on healthy foods when possible
👉journaling
👉music
👉joy & laughter (especially when shared with others)
👉mindfulness
And, no matter where they move, there is a local NAMI affiliate they can turn to.

Look at all these smiling faces:) Last week, NAMI staff and volunteers attended 12 National Nights Out in West Allis, Muskego, Mukwonago, Wauwatosa, Hartland, Delafield, Greenfield, Milwaukee District 3 and 5, Waukesha, Brown Deer, and Jefferson to visit with all of you and share hope. This week you can find us in Shorewood and MKE District 6.

Hey friends- Our PATH Homelessness Outreach Team needs your help. A very hot few weeks has depleted all of our supplies. If you would like to help provide some supplies, please visit our Amazon Wishlist, drop off items at our Waukesha office, or email Sunnie at [email protected].
👉Did you know that Serious Mental Illness (SMI) affects 25-30% of homeless individuals, a rate approximately four times higher than the 6% seen in the general adult population.
👉One of the most difficult symptoms to deal with is often the inability of the individual to understand that they have an illness and to access and/or accept treatment. If an individual is unwilling to access services and/or comply with treatment, it is often impossible for them to maintain independent housing.
👉Our outreach team is on the road every week trying to build trust and see the dignity in every life. Homelessness exacerbates mental health conditions and increases mortality risk. Individuals with SMI who are unsheltered die at more than 15 times the rate of the general population and four times the rate of those in shelters. We have an obligation to serve and support people on the margins who do not have the family and community support needed to thrive.

Statement on the Passing of Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow :
We are deeply saddened to share the news that Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow has passed away following a two-year battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. Paul was a dedicated public servant who led Waukesha County since 2015 and continued to serve the community with courage, grace, and optimism throughout his cancer journey. https://www.fox6now.com/news/waukesha-county-executive-paul-farrow-dies-61-following-cancer-battle
Paul was also a longtime friend and champion of NAMI Southeast Wisconsin and mental health initiatives throughout our community. He was always willing to put on a NAMI t-shirt and lend his voice to causes that mattered—whether speaking at our NAMI Walks, supporting the United for Waukesha Resiliency Center, participating in Blue Jean Bingo, or engaging in countless meetings, discussions, and private conversations. His kindness, compassion, and willingness to extend himself for the benefit of others will be greatly missed.
Among his many contributions, Paul:
💚Championed mental health awareness and recovery efforts throughout Waukesha County.
💚Supported the United for Waukesha Resiliency Center and efforts to help individuals and families impacted by the Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy.
💚Fostered regional collaboration to address community challenges and improve quality of life for residents.
💚Led Waukesha County with dedication and integrity as County Executive since 2015.
💚Publicly shared his cancer journey to encourage and support others facing similar diagnoses.
Paul's legacy will be remembered not only through his years of public service but through the countless lives he touched with his generosity, humility, and genuine care for others. Our heartfelt condolences and shared grief go out to his wife, Amy, their children, family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He made his cancer journey public so others felt less alone. We feel that deeply. We will never forget this effort. He will be so missed and not forgotten. ❤️
