Volunteer Operators Needed!

This is a long post, but please be sure to read to the end.

The Never Use Alone short doc, The Hotline, will be streaming on a very large streaming service in the near future. Unfortunately, we are still not allowed to say where, or when. As soon as we are able, we'll definitely let you all know!

When it airs, it'll be seen by potentially millions of people. As a result, we're anticipating a VERY LARGE call volume increase. We are planning on doing a mass onboarding so that we're ready for that increase.

As a volunteer operator you'll be answering calls from people all over the USA. Every call is from a person who's using while they're alone, and at risk of an overdose resulting in fatality.

You'll ask the caller for some information, and then you stay on the phone with them while they use. If they stop responding after using, you notify emergency services in the callers area. I know that may sound scary, but it's actually very easy. We go through a system called Northern 911. If a caller stops responding, you just call a toll-free number, give them the callers location, and they automatically connect you with the 911 dispatch in the callers area. It's very fast, and very simple.

You will be trained on our policies/ procedures, as well as how to handle commonly occurring issues. We could never train you for all possibilities, but you're never alone while on a call. You can always post in our discord server if you have questions or problems while on a call.

We do ask that you commit to at least a few hours a week, but there is no set schedule. We use Discord to coordinate with operators. You simply post in our discord server that you want your line turned on or off, and one of our volunteer coordinators will turn it on or off. If you prefer a set schedule, we can accommodate that as well. Whatever works best for you .

Abstinence is NOT a requirement for being an operator. We will never discriminate against the very people we're here to serve. We do ask that if you have used, that you wait to make sure you're safe before taking a call.

We do not accept any applications from anyone that works for a treatment center in a position where they are responsible for getting new customers for that facility.

We also do not accept applications from people who might feel the need to try and talk our callers out of using. We understand that can be difficult. But if a caller feels like they're being preached at, judged, or pushed to stop, they will not call back.

As an NUA operator you are a life line for people at risk of dying from an overdose. 99.999% of our calls end safely, with no need for alerting emergency services. When you do have an overdose call though, there is no better feeling in this world than having that caller call back and thank you for saving their lives.

In the past we've had many people who signed up, but never came on to take a call. We understand that things can change quickly, but we must ask that you only apply if you're serious about becoming an NUA operator.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask in the comments, or by messaging us privately.

If you'd like to go ahead and apply please fill out the application form on our website at https://neverusealone.com/volunteer . After submitting your application someone from our onboarding team will contact you for an interview.

If you applied long ago, and didn't hear from anyone, please consider applying again.

For those of you applying while using an iPhone. After submitting your application you may see a blank screen. Your application will be submitted. It seems Google Forms doesn't play well with iPhones for some reason.

Thank you in advance to all that apply. We look forward to speaking with you!

You're loved!
