This past week has been very emotional as we celebrated the incredible achievements of graduating Reach tutors.
We are so proud of each and every graduate and all of the hard work that brought them to this special moment! 🎊

We are also proud to give special recognition to the Ballou Valedictorian and Salutatorian, who are two of our own Reach tutors!!!
Congratulations to the Class of 2026; it’s time for your next adventure and we can’t wait to see all of the amazing things you accomplish next!🎓✨

It’s back! Reach’s online auction is live from 5pm today through May 7th at 7:45 PM.✨

From special items, such as scholarship contributions that directly support Reach seniors, to D.C. United tickets or a night out with friends at Barcelona Wine Bar, Reach’s auction has something for you! Even if you can’t make it to Read to Rise, you can definitely still participate in the auction.

Please mark your calendars: Read to Rise returns on May 7, 2026!

This special evening brings together our community to celebrate the power of literacy, honor the incredible work of our youth tutors, and support Reach’s mission of empowering young people through education and leadership. We’re excited to gather with you once again for an inspiring night of stories, impact, and community.

This spring, 20 Reach seniors will graduate high school—preparing to write the next chapter of their lives. I am excited to share that the 2026 Read to Rise will help support scholarship funds for their journeys ahead.

More details will be coming soon, but for now, save the date — we hope you’ll join us!

This year for Black History, we set out to amplify the voices of Reach tutors by asking which influential black figures have inspired them. From civil rights leader Malcom X to present-day artist Coco Jones, the tutors from the Ballou cohort shared the trailblazers, change-makers, and cultural icons who have shaped their understanding of Black history; and the modern voices who continue to inspire them today. 🤎

“She was strong and I respect that. The idea that she was just a young girl in a hostile environment while her parents wanted her to have a better life… I think that’s incredible. I really admire her.” — Lila (10th grade) on Ruby Bridges

“Coco really inspired me when I saw her as a child on television. She inspired me to be myself; to do what I want to do and pursue my passions.” — Kayla (9th grade) on Coco Jones

“I stand firm for things I believe in, and so did he. I connected with the things he fought for like civil/equal rights. In our community, we sometimes struggle to ask for help when in need, so having a voice in the community can be very important.” — Micah (12 grade) on Malcolm X
