This year, HSPE Maui is pleased to offer up to three academic scholarships for $1,500 each to graduating high school seniors in Maui County or students currently enrolled at the University of Hawaii Maui College who will be attending an accredited college of engineering in the fall.

These scholarships would not be possible without the generous support of the numerous businesses and individual sponsors. We would like to express our deep appreciation to this year’s contributors. We would also like to thank our volunteer judges who reviewed the applications. This year we had a record number of scholarship applications, and are excited to see so many students interested in pursuing engineering, especially with the intent to come home.

We are very happy to share that the recipients of the 2026 HSPE Maui Chapter scholarship are Sydney Yap-Kalipi of the University of Hawaii at Maui College, William Kayes of Seabury Hall, and Kaylee Yagi of Maui High School.

Sydney is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering.

William is interested in pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering.

Kaylee is interested in pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering.

We congratulate all our winners and wish them the best on their future endeavors! We know they have bright futures ahead and will continue their impressive contributions to the community and society.

Celebrate Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day on February 26, 2026! DiscoverE’s Girl Day is a time when volunteers, educators, and others act as role models, facilitate engineering activities, and show girls how engineers change our world. DiscoverE’s Despite the Odds research found that this simple formula helps girls develop an interest in engineering, build their confidence in their problem-solving skills, and creates a STEM identity. Join us and be a role model! Learn more at DiscoverE.org/GirlDay.

Aloha HSPE Maui Chapter! Welcome to E-Week 2026! This year's theme is "Tranform Your Future"

From the devices in our pockets to the bridges we drive across, from clean water systems to lifesaving medical innovations, engineering touches every part of our lives. That’s why each year, Engineers Week is a time to celebrate the people who make all this possible—and to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers.

This year’s theme, Transform Your Future, is a powerful reminder that engineering doesn’t just shape our world—it shapes our opportunities, our communities, and the futures we can imagine for ourselves and our children.

This Engineers Week (February 22-28, 2026) we hope that you’ll take a moment to recognize and celebrate the work of engineers and engage students in engineering. DiscoverE, the organization behind Engineers Week, has free resources you can use to inspire future innovators, such as hands-on engineering activities and lesson plans, information about engineering education, and pathways to a technical careers. Visit DiscoverE.org/EngineersWeek and get the help you need to focus on the “E” in STEM.

Aloha,

MATHCOUNTS is a national program founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the CNA Foundation. The program provides students in grades 6-8 the opportunity to compete in live contests against and alongside their peers. HSPE, Maui Chapter, hosts an annual MATHCOUNTS Chapter Competition as part of E-Week. The first-place team will advance to represent Maui at the State Competition on O‘ahu. The top four individual high scorers from the State Competition will advance to represent Hawaii at the Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Championship.

This year the Maui Chapter competition will be held on Saturday, February 7th at Maui Waena Intermediate School. Setup will begin around 7am and take down will begin after lunch. If you’re interested in volunteering, please sign up for tasks you’d like to help with. Volunteers are welcome to sign up even if they are not available for the full time slot—just note your availability next to your name on the sign-up sheet.

If you have any questions, please contact Sean Ogata at [email protected].
