🌍👁️ THE HISTORY OF IRIDOLOGY CONTINUES!

✨ IIPA EDUCATIONAL SERIES | PART II ✨

Every discovery has a history. Every book carries a legacy. And every generation builds upon the knowledge of those who came before.

In our previous series, we introduced six historical figures who helped shape the development of iridology.

But did you know that the story of iris observation reaches back much further than the 19th century? 📜

🔎 Our journey continues with six more historical contributors!

📖 Philippus Meyens – As early as 1670, he described one of the earliest published iris topographies, associating different regions of the iris with parts of the human body.

🇩🇪 Emil Schlegel – Helped introduce and spread Ignaz von Peczely’s ideas in Germany through lectures and writings.

🌿 Henry Lindlahr – Brought iridology into American naturopathic education through his publications and teaching in Chicago.

🇺🇸 Henry Edward Lane – His 1904 book Iridology: The Diagnosis from the Eye became an important early American publication on the subject.

🔬 J. Haskel Kritzer – Published his Textbook of Iridiagnosis in 1921, featuring iris illustrations and charts.

📚 Theodor Kriege – Contributed to European iridology literature through The Fundamental Basis of Irisdiagnosis.

✨ FROM EARLY IRIS MAPS TO BOOKS, SCHOOLS AND EDUCATION

These historical contributions reveal how ideas were recorded, shared, discussed and passed from one generation to the next.

What began as early attempts to interpret visible iris patterns gradually developed into a wider body of literature, teaching traditions and professional communities.

And our journey is far from over!

👁️🌍 FROM THE EARLY PIONEERS OF IRIDOLOGY TO WORLD IRIDOLOGY DAY

How did a small part of the eye inspire generations of practitioners and researchers?

History part 1.

🔎 In the 19th century, Ignatz von Peczely and Nils Liljequist independently developed ideas about iris observation, helping shape the early history of iridology.

📚 Rudolf Schnabel, Emmanuel Felke, Joseph Angerer, and Joseph Deck further contributed to its historical literature and educational development. Deck’s The Principles of Iris Diagnosis (1965) became an influential reference.

✨ Each generation built upon the work of those before them, creating a remarkable journey of observation, learning, and exploration.
