Who says learning about healthy eating can't be FUN?

With HEAL Smart Cart, students get hands-on practice identifying food groups, sorting foods, and learning about our Be Careful Basket—foods that can be enjoyed in moderation.

When HEAL student Ziva was asked to draw her “Healthy Hero,” she chose someone close to home: her mom.

Her colorful drawing tells a story of wellness that goes beyond eating vegetables and exercising. Ziva described her mom’s healthy habits, including yoga, good sleep, and daily family time.

Asked about her own healthy habits, Ziva shared that she practices yoga, plays soccer, drinks water, and enjoys home-cooked meals. Her response offers a meaningful glimpse into how a child understands wellness and connects those lessons to everyday life.

At HEAL United, we equip teachers to help students like Ziva learn about nutrition, physical activity, and lifelong wellness. Your support helps bring those lessons to children across Alabama, creating connections that reach beyond the classroom and into their homes.

At the beginning of the school year, we sent "Turning Frown Upside Down" bundles (hardbound book, student workbooks, Peppy the plush puppy, and a cozy blanket) to the school counselors at each of the elementary schools we serve. We recently received this feedback, which is a true reminder of the difference we are making.

"Thank you for thinking of us and sharing these books! I think they will continue to have a lot of potential to make a positive impact on students, and I’m excited to see the article come together!"
