The Alabama Visual Arts Network is a nonprofit organization working to promote the appreciation of visual art and the role it plays in the economic vitality and quality of life of Alabama communities since 1968. The Alabama Visual Arts Network, formerly the Alabama Craft Council was founded in Montgomery in 1968 as the Alabama Craftsman’s Council and has promoted visual art and artists in Alabama ever since.

JOIN US for Arts Trail on Broad!

We invite the public to bring their work and get advice from Jacksonville State University Art and Design Professors. The portfolio reviews will begin Saturday, May 9th, at 11 AM and will end at 1 PM.

Artists are encouraged to bring their artwork for portfolio review and critique. Whenever possible, please bring original artwork to allow reviewers to experience the work as intended. This may include:

Photographs
Prints
Drawings
Paintings
Collage
Sculpture
Ceramics
Graphic design

If bringing original work is not possible, artists should prepare a digital portfolio using Google Slides, a similar presentation platform, or a PDF that clearly presents their work.

If digital presentation is the only option, artists are strongly encouraged to bring a tablet to display their portfolio, as this allows for easier viewing and discussion during the critique.

Please ensure all artwork is well-organized and ready to present upon arrival.

These portfolio reviews are part of the ongoing Arts Trail festivities, which will run through Mother’s Day Weekend, May 8th - 9th. This is a free, family-friendly event located on historic Broad Street, celebrating both the visual and performing arts.

The Gadsden Museum of Art has a new exhibition opening May 8th from 5-8 PM! The reception will be a part of the Arts Trail on Broad festivities that will run through Mother’s Day Weekend, May 8th - 9th. This is a free, family-friendly event, celebrating both the visual and performing arts.

The City of Gadsden and the Alabama Visual Arts Network invite you to participate in the Alabama Arts Trail on Broad event in Gadsden, Alabama, May 8th - 9th.
The Alabama Arts Trail is a statewide initiative that connects the public with Alabama’s visual artists and the places where creative work is made and shared. We invite you as an artist to demonstrate your work, sell your work, network with other artists, and support the arts in Alabama. All artists working across the visual arts media, including sculpture, photography, painting, ceramics, and more, are invited to participate.

Head to downtown Gadsden for a creative-filled weekend of art and live performances on May 8-9, 2026, located on historic Broad Street, celebrating both the visual and performing arts.

Friday’s schedule (5:00-9:00 PM) includes:
• Artist demonstrations
• Sunset Maypole performance by the Downtown Dance Conservatory
• Piano concert by Eden Brent at the Hardin Center for the Cultural Arts at 7:00 PM
• Food trucks and a bounce house for the kids

Saturday’s schedule (9:00-5:00 PM) begins with:
• Vendor market with various types of artwork and downtown vendors
• Cardboard sculpture contest supplied by Gadsden Recycles
• Portfolio review and critiques by JSU Art & Design professors
• Food trucks and bounce house

A closing reception will be held at the Gadsden Museum of Art from 5:00-9:00 PM on Saturday for artists and visitors. Musical group Me & My Knife will perform on Broad Street that evening.
