On June 4, 2026 at the Glen Ridge Country Club, The Verona Lions Club celebrated their 75th anniversary with 76 members and guests in attendance. It was a beautiful evening for the indoor/outdoor event, filled with great memories by members who joined in 1966 up to new members who joined the club just 10 days ago. Evening entertainment was provided by The Ryan Express. One of the highlights was a video presentation of the history of the VLC produced by member Andy Burger, which can be viewed by going to the VLC website at: www.LionsClubVeronaNJ.org

Representing the Township of Verona, Mayor Tamburro presented the club with a Proclamation. Additionally, Mike Petti, outgoing President installed the new President Bob Mathers who then installed the new officers for 2026-2027.

Thank you Marla and Larry from CASA of Essex County for attending our meeting. A very informative presentation. Check out their missiona nd ways to help htis vital program.

Service organizations build the backbone of strong communities.

Thank you to the Verona’s Lions Club for inviting Marla to speak about the work of CASA Essex and the powerful role volunteer advocates play in the lives of children navigating foster care.

CASA advocates show up consistently for young people—listening, learning, and ensuring their voices are heard in the decisions that shape their futures.

It was a privilege to share how community members can be part of that impact.

Grateful to connect with leaders who believe deeply in service and in creating brighter futures for children and families.

It was a busy week for the VLC. We started with loading a truck of hospital equipment supplies for shipment to Ukraine and ended the week with a delivery of well in excess of 5,000 pairs of used and new glasses to the NJ Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in West Trenton NJ. This program helps those in need of eyeglasses throughout the world.

Photos are from the center where glasses are sorted, cleaned, repackaged and glasses or frames that are damaged are sent to a specialty recycling center.
